LIS Tiger Talk
February 23, 2024
Principal's Message
Tiger Families,
Congratulations to Team Browning for being crowned READBowl Champions for the state of Ohio. Miss Browning and Mrs. Young's homerooms logged over 130,000 minutes of reading over 4 weeks. Now that's impressive. Thanks to the 5th grade ELA team for introducing a fun, exciting contest to get our Tigers excited about reading.
Please take moment to read through the district announcement below. Students will not have school on April 8th due to the solar eclipse.
Also, looking at our April schedule, we wanted to share our Ohio State Testing (OST) dates. Please try to avoid scheduling appointments or any sort of planned absence on these days.
English Language Arts (ELA): April 10 & 11
Math: April 16 & 17
Science (5th Only): April 23
Have a great weekend! Go Tigers!

Calendar Change: No School on Monday, April 8, 2024
Loveland Tiger Families,
There will be no school for students on Monday, April 8, 2024. A total solar eclipse will cross over Ohio that day, and we’re canceling classes to allow families to experience the eclipse together.
The timing of the eclipse presents a safety challenge. The eclipse will stretch over a period of about two hours around afternoon dismissal time. Students would be on buses, walking, or driving home when the eclipse hits its peak, making it very challenging for students to view this once-in-a-lifetime event safely.
This is the first total solar eclipse in Ohio in more than 200 years. The Ohio Department of Workforce and Development is warning that traffic could be heavy and cell service or internet service could be impacted because of the large number of people expected to visit the state.
I understand that a change to the schedule may be an inconvenience for families, which is why we’ve made this decision now, to give everyone time to prepare. Staff will still report to work on April 8 and use the time for professional development and training.
You can find more information about how to view the eclipse here safely:

READBowl Champions
Loveland Intermediate School is proud to announce that our fifth grade team Browning/Young has been crowned Ohio State Reading Champions. This championship came as a result of reading the most minutes per team over four weeks during READBowl 2024: The World Championship of Reading, a global reading competition put on by Read With Malcolm, the Youth Literacy Initiative of NFL Super Bowl Champion and children's book author Malcolm Mitchell.
The seventh annual competition was held from January 8 (the day of the College Football National Championship Game) through Super Bowl Sunday.
"Winning a state championship is always prestigious," said Mitchell. "However this year is especially notable, as there were more than 280,000 students, from all 50 states and 14 countries on the reading field for the big game this year. I am so proud of every student who competed and congratulate our state and national champions. Training for READBowl 2025 begins now."
Overall, students from across the globe read for more than 180 million minutes during READBowl 2024. Mitchell, who struggled to read through school and into college, has made it his mission to reach kids and help them read to a better future.

Science Day- Presenters NEEDED!
Do you love science? Have a science-based career? Or maybe a cool hobby?
We are currently looking for presenters for our LIS Science Day on Thursday, March 21st, from 7:45 am until 1:45 pm. (Lunch will be provided) Our theme for the year is Science is CURIOSITY.
The idea would be to present a topic of your choice, involving science, for about 40 minutes to 5 different groups of students. Each homeroom group has about 28 kids. Your presentation could be anything from a lesson to a demonstration to an explanation of your job, etc. Possibilities are endless and we are happy to help along the way. We're wanting to engage students and get their brainy gears churning.
We can only pull off this day if we obtain enough presenters. Even if it’s not you, maybe it’s a coworker or a neighbor or a family member that can help make this day a huge success; please connect us.
Feel free to email or call/text Sudeepa Hall at hallz6521@gmail.com or 937-367-9218.
