July 31, 2018 - Back to School Night Information

Welcome from Mrs. Donnell

Dear CCS Families,

Can you believe that school is almost upon us? What happened to our summer break? I want to welcome all of our students, families and staff back to CCS for the 2018-2019 school year.

CCS has some exciting changes in staff, as well as a wonderful returning staff and we have created a new “puzzle” in the elementary hallway. Your teachers have been working hard all summer to create classrooms that are ready for each of you to learn about Christ and his love for you. We look forward to seeing all of you at Back to School night on August 7 from 5:30-7:30pm. You will be able to meet your student’s teachers and bring in their supplies, get all of your questions answered and even enjoy dinner and fellowship.

Exciting things are happening at CCS and this year our theme is “Fearless”.

As we begin this new school year I want each of us to learn more about being fearless in God’s world and to learn to model fearlessness in a Godly way everyday. May God bless this school, its staff, its students and its families as we forge forward in presenting God’s Word and teaching CCS students the biblical perspective of the world.

Thank you all for continuing to allow me to be a part of such an exciting ministry!

Where to park:

When you arrive, please park on the west side of the building. There will be flags directing you to the main school doors. Upon entering, please drop off your reams of paper and administration office supplies outside the Teacher Resource room in the Elementary Hallway. There will be smiling CCS students with carts ready to help you! Take your additional school supplies to your student’s classroom/homeroom/locker (see info by grade below). Most classrooms have been relocated - CCS staff will be ready to direct you!

What to do:

This event is an open house format. Please allow yourself enough time to drop off school supplies for each of your students, meet teachers, attend one of our parent orientation meetings, visit the gym for sign-ups and get something to eat! Dinner will be provided (hot dog, chips, drink and cookie).

Elementary (Preschool-5th):

Please take your school supplies and completed paperwork to your classroom and place them on your student’s assigned desk (or as directed by your teacher). Spend some time getting to know your teacher(s), ask any last minute questions, say hi to some familiar faces and meet some new friends! After you’re comfortable - head to the gym and visit each table for important information and sign-up sheets including school lunches, athletics, student activities and to order your student’s complimentary theme t-shirt.

Middle School (6th-8th):

Please take your school supplies to your homeroom and place them on your student’s assigned desk (or as directed by your teacher). Spend some time getting to know your teacher(s), ask any last minute questions, say hi to some familiar faces and meet some new friends! After you’re comfortable - head to the gym to hand-in your school paperwork. Be sure to visit each table for important information and sign-up sheets including school lunches, athletics, student activities and order your student’s complimentary theme t-shirt. SPECIAL NOTE: Locker selection will not be available before 6:30pm to allow sufficient time for families with younger students to help them first.

High School (9th-12th):

Report to the gym to hand-in your school paperwork. Lockers will be assigned in the Fellowship Hall after 6:30pm. Be sure to visit each table for important information and sign-up sheets including school lunches, athletics, student activities and order your student’s complimentary theme t-shirt. SPECIAL NOTE: Locker selection will not be available before 6:30pm to allow sufficient time for families with younger students to help them first.

Parents of Juniors & Seniors:

Representatives from Ivy Tech will be here from 6:00-7:30pm to explain the Ivy Tech dual credit option and to answer any questions from parents & students. There will be a table set up on the Secondary end of the building for the Ivy Tech reps.

Mrs. Laura Cox

School Counselor

Mrs. Cox, will focus on guiding our Middle and High students toward college and career readiness. She will also work with elementary students by providing additional emotional and spiritual guidance.

"I am so excited to serve as School Counselor at Columbus Christian School this year! I was born and raised in central Pennsylvania, where I lived with my parents and younger brother until I moved away to college (they still reside in PA). I attended a Christian school for 13 years (K-12) and received my higher education from Christian institutions—my Bachelor’s of Social Work from Cedarville University (CU) and a Master’s of Social Work from Asbury University. Since completing my degrees, I’ve been working as a mental health therapist, prevention specialist (providing mental health education to the community), and an adjunct professor (at CU). I was married to my husband, Jonathan Cox, last August. He is my best friend and a true expression of God’s love and grace to me each day. We moved to Seymour in June, as Jonathan accepted an engineering position at Cummins and I accepted the opportunity to serve at CCS. It’s quite a story how God led us here, and I’d love to share it with you sometime! I pray that through Christ, I can become part of the CCS family and serve you all well. I always thought that the teachers and staff at my Christian school growing up had the best job in the world—and now God has blessed me with that same opportunity! Thank you for allowing me to walk this journey with you—I look forward to getting to know each student and supporting them and their families."
