The Principal's Desk At Sycamore
September 9, 2020
Dr. Crystal Cooper, Principal
Welcome Back!
Here are some updates for you:
1. Students must wear masks at school (We have some for sale for $10 and also some others at school should they come without them)
2. Our digital students are doing a GREAT job learning virtually! We know that it is a transition for all, but we are proud of our students for staying focused during the day. We have such a strong digital community!
3. Students should be online from 8:30 AM until the end of the day which usually ends no later than 3:15 PM. With teachers trying to teach live at a higher level, they will need to have the students on during a normal school day. Please make sure they are on and engaged in a quiet space void of distractions and others.
Student Progress and Progress Reports
This Friday, all teachers will send home progress reports. Please review with your child and connect with your child's teacher with any questions.
CoGAT Testing
The letter below was sent to all 1,2 and 5th grade parents who have digital students at home who will be coming in to test. The data we get from this will allow us to know your child's ability and also eligibility for gifted services. If you haven't replied, please let Brittany Butler ASAP. Thank you!
Your child will be participating in the 2020 administration of the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) which measures students’ verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal reasoning abilities. The results of this test will help assess how well your child is performing and assist with plans to meet your child’s academic needs.
The administration will be delivered as follows:
· Tuesday, September 15, 2020: First Grade
· Wednesday, September 16, 2020: Second Grade
· Thursday, September 17, 2020: Fifth Grade
Thank you for making sure your child is present and on time for test day. Testing for each grade level will occur on the day listed and there will not be a makeup administration for the 2020 CogAT.
Although no studying or preparation is necessary for this test, the following recommendations should help your child do his/her best each day:
· Get plenty of rest
· Eat a healthy breakfast
· Be prepared (glasses if needed)
· They should bring two #2 pencils with them to test
For morning arrival, please drop your child off in the car rider lane between 8:15am-8:45am. You will need to print this letter and detach the bottom portion of this letter to send with your child. This will allow them to enter testing.
All testing should be complete by 12:00pm. Please come to the bus lane in front of the school at 12:00pm to pick up your child. You will need to bring this letter and your driver’s license with you to pick up your child. If someone other than yourself will be picking up your child, please make sure they are on the emergency contact list. At this time you may pick up a lunch and breakfast free of charge.
Thank you very much for encouraging and supporting your student during testing. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Brittany Butler at 678-714-5770.
Sincerely,
Brittany Butler, Assistant Principal
