2020-21 Back-to-School Information
We have added a few updates and attachments to this week's newsletter. I also sent a letter and our school's COVID safety plan to everyone through email. I am asking all students, parents, and guardians to please check your email and review this information. Our COVID safety plan will also be posted on our school's website.
Have a great weekend and GO CANES!
*Students need to get in a habit of checking their CHS Office365 email on a weekly basis. This is our best method of communicating with students. Students can access their CHS Office 365 email accounts by visiting office.com
Login---(student lunch number)@cartersvilleschools.org
Password--student date of birth (mmddyyyy-----8 digits, no dashes)
**Students, please remember your school email is not a personal email account. School email is monitored for inappropriate content.**
Upcoming Dates and Information:
New this week:
From the CHS Counseling Department: In the interest of supporting our new safety protocols, the Counseling Office will be routing all visitors (internal and external) through the main office. If you need to see a counselor, please come through the entrance in the main office. The counseling suite door will remain locked, not to discourage visitors, but to re-route traffic. Thank you for helping us with this as we get used to the "new normal."
Eidson Prep course information for the September ACT and the October SAT is posted at the end of this newsletter.
Because of the COVID safety guidelines we have in place, we are selling parking passes in a different manner this year. Students must complete all of the following steps:
- Students MUST have a valid drivers license to purchase a parking pass. We will not sell or reserve parking spots in advance for students who are getting their drivers licenses in the upcoming months. Once school starts, students will still be able to purchase a parking spot upon availability.
- Students MUST complete the questionnaire indicating the student is purchasing a parking pass. Students will access the survey link through their CHS Office365 account. LINK:https://bit.ly/2D5jReM (The link will open on Saturday, August 1 at 9:00 a.m. and close on Sunday, August 9 at 4:00 p.m.)
- During grade level fee days (fee day information is listed below), students will pay for and receive their parking passes. Students will be assigned a parking spot this year. We will take into consideration what type of car a student drives when assigning parking spots.
- Students MUST come to fee day with all completed parking forms. (Parking forms are attached to the end of this newsletter, and the forms are posted our school's web page.)
- Students must bring a copy of their drivers license and insurance card when they come to pay for their parking pass during fee day.
- **SENIORS who are planning on leaving campus for lunch must have the Senior Open Campus form filled out and turned in to Mrs. Carp on Senior Fee Day. Seniors must also purchase a Senior ID in order to leave campus for lunch. (The Senior Open Campus form is attached to the end of this newsletter, and the form is posted on our school's web page.)
We will offer a time for students to stop by the school and pick up their course schedules, rent lockers, purchase parking passes, etc. This year's fee day process will look different. Students will be assigned a time when they can come to the school (schedule listed below). Students will come through the front office lobby to pick up schedules, rent lockers, purchase parking passes, etc. (Please park in the student parking lot for Fee Days).
This year, students who wish make a last minute necessary change to their course requests will still have the opportunity to do so. Instructions on how to request a course change will be printed on students' schedules.
We ask that students do not enter the school building on fee days because our teachers will be in meetings, and our custodial staff will be working to get our school ready for the first day of school. The only students who will be allowed to tour the school are freshmen and students who are new to CHS. Teachers will not be available when students tour the building, but please know all teachers will make an orientation video and post it on their websites prior to the first day of school.
Students who have holds on file for textbooks, for cafeteria fees, or for other items, need to stop by the front office to take care of their holds prior to Fee Days. Clearing up these issues will help students avoid delays when purchasing parking passes, lockers, etc.
**The Fee Day Payment form is attached to the end of this newsletter. PLEASE have all paperwork filled out in advance. We will accept cash, checks (phone number on checks), debit cards, and credit cards for payments.

We will not hold our typical open house as we have in the past. Teachers will not be available when students tour the building, but please know, all teachers will make an orientation video and post it on their websites.
We realize freshmen and students new to CHS are not familiar with our FAB Wednesday processes and procedures. We will send out FAB Wednesday information in the next few weeks. We will NOT offer FAB Wednesday early release and tutoring while we are operating on a hybrid schedule.
We have received several calls about reserved seating. Because of COVID social distancing guidelines, reserved seating has been suspended for this upcoming football season. We will send out more information about purchasing game tickets as we finalize our athletic safety plans.
*Once we return to normal seating capacity (2021-22 school year), we will honor your previously held reserved seats.
Free and Reduced Lunch- Students who qualify for free or reduced priced meals are required to fill out a new application each school year. Paper applications are available in our school's front office, or parents/guardians can apply online by visiting the following link:
If you need help with the application process or have questions, please contact the school, and we will be glad to help you.
Cartersville City Schools App- The Cartersville Schools App is great means of receiving school and school system information. Student drop-off and pick-up: Students can be dropped off and picked up in two different locations: the front loop of the school and the back parking lot. Students who are dropped off or picked up in the back need to enter the back parking lot through Dixie Avenue. This year, we will not open our school buildings until 8:00 each morning.
WE NEED YOUR HELP: Last year, we had an excessive number of students who were tardy to school/first period, which resulted in numerous students having to serve detention and in-school suspension (ISS). When students are late to first period or any class, their tardiness causes the student to miss instruction and can disrupt the learning environment for other students. Additionally, when students serve ISS for tardiness to school, they miss vital instructional time. This loss of instruction can be avoided by being punctual to first period and to all classes throughout the day. We greatly appreciate your help with this matter!
This means students will not have new assignments to complete on Mondays. This is a day for students to complete make-up course work, a remediation day, participate in advisement lessons, etc. Teachers will communicate with students about what is expected on Mondays.
On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, students, last names beginning with A-K, will come to school for in-person instruction while students last names beginning with L-Z will complete digital learning assignments at home.
On Thursdays and Fridays, students, last names beginning with L-Z, will come to school for in-person instruction while students last names beginning with A-K will complete digital learning assignments at home.
