Symptom Guidelines for sending your child to school
BG Paws - positive reinforcement system
The goal of the positive reinforcement system is to continue to reinforce BG expectations, use consistent language and positive feedback when expected behaviors are displayed. Official start date is Monday, November 1 through the end of the year. Your child can earn an individual ticket from any staff member for above and beyond expected behavior. The ticket goes into a drawing for a weekly grade level drawing. Each classroom can also earn a ticket for showing BG Best (respectful, responsible, and/or safe behavior).
Once 10 tickets are earned as a class the class will choose an incentive and earn a BG paw to display on the outside of their classroom door. When we earn 50 PAWS as a school we will have whole school bingo. When we earn 100 PAWS, we will have another reward. Can you guess what it might be? Every 100 Paws earns BG students another reward.
EMPOWER
Outdoor Clothing
Please be sure to send your child with appropriate outdoor clothing for mask breaks and recess. Students will have outdoor recess unless the outside temperature is below 0.

In February the PTO runs the After School Enrichment Program (ASE), which allows students to try new and different activities in art, science, sports, dance and animal care. We're so excited that we have the green light to do IN PERSON classes this year, along with some virtual and kit options! That being said, we need a lot of volunteers to plan and help run classes. Please come join our first ASE Committee Meeting on Monday, November 7th at 1PM at Old Towne Pub. If you can't make the meeting, but would like to be on the committee or volunteer please reach out to Kelly Cameron 630-584-8684 or Kirstin Jurcik 773-220-1667.

Fall Party Costumes
Students will be permitted to wear their costumes at school. Below are the details that will assist students, teachers, and families in making the best decision for each individual child. Please know, we recognize that not all students WANT to wear a costume to school. Within the details provided, we have given suggestions for students who do not want to wear a costume for personal reasons. We support all students in the decisions they make for themselves regarding participation in dressing up.
Details:
- Students may come to school wearing their costumes on Friday October 29. Students will not have the opportunity to change into or out of their costume at school. Students will be wearing their costumes all day. Please think about students sitting in these costumes all day, using the washroom, attending recess and specials.
- Students will still be required to wear face masks.
- No costume masks, no makeup, no inflatable costumes. Costumes must be appropriate for school (no blood, gore, weapons, or accessories).
- Throughout the week of October 25, the Student Council will be hosting a Spirit Week. Each day will have a different clothing theme (examples could include: crazy hats, silly socks, mixed up colors day, etc). Friday October 29, will be a Spirit Day as well for anyone who would rather participate in the Spirit Day versus wearing a costume.
- Each grade level will determine what time their class party will be. Classroom teachers will work directly with their Head Room Parents to coordinate details. Watch for updated party information from your Head Room Parent!!!
- No food is permitted at Fall Classroom Parties. This includes no food in goodie bags either.
- We will not hold a costume parade.
BG Parent Volunteers
All volunteers, new and “old,” will be asked to complete the Volunteer Form prior to coming in to volunteer for the first time this school year. Once we have it on file you will not need to complete it again this year. I assume there may be questions regarding the fingerprinting form from a few years ago. Right now, we are not requiring volunteers to get fingerprinted. Volunteers simply need to complete the Volunteer Form.
Just like in previous years, volunteers will need to have their license with them for us to scan into our Raptor System. In addition now, you will need to show proof of vaccination or proof of a negative Covid-19 test within 72hrs. Digital or paper proof is fine. We will NOT retain a paper copy of your vaccination or negative Covid tests here at the building. Therefore, please be prepared to show proof each day you volunteer.
All volunteers will be required to adhere to the safety mitigations schools are following. Volunteers will need to remain 3’ from students and to wear a mask for their entire time in the building.
Picking up your child early?
Change in your child's dismissal plan?
For Example:
If your child typically walks home each day, discuss a rainy day back up plan. Even though you are usually a walker, you will be picked up by car if it is raining at dismissal.
Notifying Your Child of a Dimissal Change:
Unless you are aware of a dismissal change the night before, please DO NOT email a teacher during the school day to relay a dismissal change to your child. We don't want an email to be overlooked while teachers are busy teaching. If you have a last minute dismissal change, please call the office.
For Example:
Usually a bus rider, but will be a car rider today
Usually attends baker station, but taking the bus home today
Whenever possible, please be sure to communicate a change in dismissal plans with your child before they come to school that day.
How to Report Baker Station Absences
If your child will be absent on a day they would normally attend Baker Station, you need to email your site directly or email Ursula Bulgarelli, Baker Station Coordinator at ubulgarelli@stcparks.org , ALL absences must be reported by 12:30pm on the day of your child’s absence. The St. Charles Park District and Baker Station staff does not receive this information from the individual school sites.
