Annual Testing @ Mabton SD

MSD 120 "All Means All"

Washington Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills

The purpose of WaKIDS is to provide a snapshot of where Kindergartners are in their development early in the school year. These data help inform classroom teacher’s decisions about individualized learning. WaKIDS isn't a "test." Kindergarten teachers observe children during everyday classroom activities and take an inventory of their skills by November 1, 2021.

There are six areas of development and learning:

  1. social-emotional
  2. physical
  3. language
  4. cognitive
  5. math
  6. literacy

Typically, the final student skill development inventory is shared with parents during fall parent-teacher conferences.

Smarter Balanced Assesments (SBA) English Language Arts and Mathematics

The Smarter Balanced Assessment System (SBA) is aligned to the Washington K-12 Learning Standards. SBA measures student achievement and growth in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics for students in grades 3-8 and grade 10. The high school ELA and Math assessments can be used to meet a student's graduation pathway requirement. Typically, spring results are available in the fall of the next school year; a score report is placed in the student's file, and a copy is shared with parents during fall conferences.

Due to school closure related to COVID, the spring 2021 Smarter Balance Assessments were cancelled in Washington State. Instead, this Fall students in grade 4-9 and 10 are taking a shortened version of the test that they would have taken in the spring. For example a current grade 4 students will take the grade 3 ELA and Math test while a current grade 11 student will take the grade 10 tests. The regular Spring-only testing cycle will resume spring 2022.

Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS)

The Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) measures the level of proficiency students have achieved based on the K-12 Science Learning Standards. This assessment is administered in grade 5, 8 and 11 in the spring with results available in the fall of the next school year. A score report is placed in the student's file, and a copy is shared with parents during fall conferences.

Similar to the SBA, the WCAS was not administered Spring 2021 so will follow a similar shortened Fall 2021 administration for last year's students, and the regular Spring-only testing cycle will resume Spring 2022.

National Assessment of Educational Progress 2019 Washington

National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)

NAEP is a national test that measures what students across the country know and can do in 10 subject areas, including mathematics, reading, writing, and science. Federal law requires every state to give the NAEP in reading and math at grades 4 and 8 every two years.

This school year, Mabton School District was selected to administer the NAEP reading and mathematics tests in grade 8 on February 3.

WIDA Screener & WIDA ACCESS For English Language Learners

The WIDA Screener is used to determine initial eligibility for English Language Development services for English learners in grades K–12. Students are identified as eligible for screening based on the home langauge survey completed during the school registration process. Eligible students are screened within 30 days of the start of school. Parents receive notification of the screener results and students eligible to receive English language development services are enrolled in ELD services.

The WIDA ACCESS assessment is given to students in grades K–12 who qualify for English language development (ELD) services to determine which students remain eligible to continue receiving ELD services. Students that reach a certain proficiency level are exited out of the program and their progress is monitored.

The WIDA ACCESS testing window for the 2021-2022 school year opens January 31 and runs through March 25.

NOTE: Washington State recently transitioned from administering the ELPA Screener and ELPA 21 annual spring assessment to the WIDA Screener and WIDA ACCESS. Parents of students that took the ELPA 21 annual assessment Spring 2021 can expect to receive an official score report and notification of continued services in the coming week. All students receiving ELD services will complete the WIDA ACCESS assessment moving forward.
