A Message From Our Principal
Dear Springfield Elementary School Families,
It is hard to believe that the end of the 17-18 school year is fast approaching! First, I would like to thank you the parents for your support this year. Your support for your child and their education is invaluable! Thank for helping with their homework, talking with them about their day, and encouraging them on a daily basis. I also thank those of you that have been able to volunteer in our school and assist our teachers whether that has been making copies or chaperoning a field trip. Your time and assistance has been so important!
A big thanks goes to our PTA this year! We greatly appreciate our PTA officers for leading us and providing opportunities for all of our families to come together on campus. This includes the back-to-school picnic, the Daddy Daughter Dance, book fairs, Rodeo Night, and many other events. We would not able to be provide these opportunities without the support of our PTA. We are still currently looking for parents who would be willing to serve in a leadership role on our PTA executive board for the 18-19 school year. If you are interesting in helping, you may contact our current PTA or myself for further information.
For an update for the 18-19 school year, our school is expected to grow next year in student population. We will be adding an additional fourth and fifth grade class as well as an additional special services teacher, a half time school counselor, and our current half time PE teacher will now be full time. So, we will have two full time PE teachers next year. We will also be adding a second assistant principal.
Please be sure to note our calendar of events on our newsletter this month, as we have several exciting events as we close out our school year as well as important dates to note for the beginning of next year. I do want to specifically recognize our fifth grade class for a job well done this year and serving as our student leaders. We look forward to celebrating them at their promotion ceremony on May 24th at 8:30 AM!
Again, thank you for your continued support for your child’s education and Springfield Elementary this year! It has been honor to serve as principal again this year. I wish you all a safe and exciting summer ahead.

Notes from the Nurse
Please be on the lookout for a red folder in your students book bag on Tuesday, May 8 for any student with daily/as needed/medication in the health room for next year. Make sure to get your doctor appointment now for summer! Also be sure to pick up your child’s medication in the health room by May 25th, 11:00. If you can pick it up sooner in the week, it will help with wait times. Any medication left will not be held for next year, it will be disposed of.
Thank you and have a great rest of the year and summer!
Thank you!
Nurse Moore

Technology:
It has been a great year! The big news this year is we experimented with the 3D printer in fifth grade and are still working on processing our designs. I hope to use the printer with more grades next year. Have a great summer and remember to practice appropriate Digital Citizenship this summer.
Music:
It is official, I am retiring at the end of this school year. Thank you for entrusting your children to me over the past 10 years. Many thanks to those of you who have volunteered to help the music program go on! We have had some good times and I will treasure many memories of the Springfield families. It is my hope that the love for music will continue to be part of your lives long after I’m gone. I will miss not seeing your children grow up, but it’s time for me to help take care of my grand-babies. I love that we can stay in touch through email and social media. Please let me know what’s going on in your lives. Pam.kawakami@gmail.com
