Mooresville Graded School District

A glimpse at the good stuff happening in our schools!

Spring is almost here!

The weather has been rather dreary with so much rain this February, but today the sun is shining bright and it reminds us that Spring is almost here! It is important to remind ourselves that while the rain gets old while it is happening, it is also going to make for a much more colorful spring as the dormant flowers and grass soak up the necessary moisture. Sometimes school can be a bit like that, too. Throughout the winter months, projects and homework and study sessions can seem never ending. But then one day it all comes to fruition, and our students are presenting about a famous author or explaining how the anatomy of a frog compares to that of humans or discussing what presidents throughout our American history have done and how well they did it! We love seeing our students have that "Aha" moment! Thank you for sharing your students with us so we can be part of helping them grow and learn!

Mooresville Intermediate School takes a trip to Greece and England!

To enhance their unit on Ancient Greece, 6th grade students took a virtual field trip using virtual reality headsets and the Google Expeditions app. They explored the island of Santorini, home of the lost civilization of the Minoans who developed the decimal number system. They also explored Athens, the capital and largest city in Greece. While in Athens, students experienced the ruins of the Parthenon and the Acropolis. Students then traveled to the British Museum in London, England, to view various artifacts that were taken from the Parthenon for preservation purposes. On their final expedition, students stood on Mount Olympus, the tallest mountain in Greece and once viewed as the home of the Olympian Gods and Goddesses. With virtual reality, students can now visit places around the world without ever leaving the classroom. This unique experience brings what they are learning to life!
