FIRST YEARS
This week, first year learners are finishing up Film Chunk #2 and should be completely finished with the filming portion of their projects by this Friday, March 8th. In Engineering with Mr. Hudnall, first years are beginning their instrument build today. Learners should remember to dress accordingly and bring any materials that they may need. The weather is supposed to be a high of around 60 degrees and a low around 41 with partly cloudy skies, so working in the Fab Lab will be chilly.
In English, learners finished Romeo and Juliet and began writing their research question for their research projects due on April 5th. In Physics with Mr. Hardy, learners are wrapping up introduction of waves and will start studying wave phenomena like Doppler Effect. In Math with Mr. Stone, learners are working on new functions such as f(x)=x and looking at how it is the inverse, f-1(x)of quadratic functions. In World Geography with Mr. Welch, learners just finished up studying the elements of culture. Next week, we will briefly look at traditional cultures, migration, trade and innovations by reading selected articles on these topics.
SECOND YEARS
It’s been another productive week at the Academy, as learners shift into the next gear of Change the Game. Assets are nearing completion as learners finish developing their music, art, and animation, and coding is ramping up. We are excited to see what guilds will have developed at the end of our project. Be sure to attend Acadecon on April 4th, from 5:30-7:00 PM!
Constructive arguments, ahoy! Debate preparation has been a big focus this week, as learners get ready for their paired debates which will begin next week. Another focus this week has been the Second Spring Baking Championship, where learners build their knowledge of 18th and 19th century revolutions and then demonstrate that knowledge by creating a “recipe” for that revolution, including ingredients, procedures, and each element’s significance. A few learners insisted on showing off their baking skills as well, which was fun for all!
THIRD YEARS
During Titan Time the 3rd Years heard from George Elwell from Camp RYLA - a student leadership camp this summer. Nigel Ramirez & Elise Skelton spoke about their experience last summer. They also heard from Tom Cavin, Blue Cross Blue Shield. Mr. Cavin spoke about creating a great resume and interview tips from dressing to impress to a variety of questions that may be asked and putting your best foot forward.
