Career Center
The first annual Education, Employment, and Enlistment Palooza on December 10th was a wonderful success for our district’s students and families. Thank you to the fantastic participants in the college/military/career fair, the ASVAB exams, the financial aid assistance, and the many other sessions to help showcase opportunities for our students.
Minnesota North College is offering a Full-Tuition Presidential Scholarship for high-achieving students. Students may attend any of our six campuses (Hibbing, Itasca, Mesabi Range-Eveleth, Mesabi Range-Virginia, Rainy River, or Vermilion).
If you have any seniors this year who scored a 28 or higher on the ACT and have either a 3.8+ GPA or are in the top 10% of their class, please pass this great scholarship opportunity on to them.
· First Priority Deadline: December 19, 2022
· Second Priority Deadline: March 3, 2023
A high percentage of qualifying students who apply for the scholarship will receive it- we have funding for 12 scholarships. It’s a great way to save money by getting free tuition and fees the first two years of college. (The scholarship is renewable for a 2nd year if students maintain a 3.2 GPA).
Page Grant – Scholarship Opportunity opens Jan 1
The Page Grant is annually renewable and can be applied toward an associate (certificate, tech/trade/community college) or bachelor’s program. We do not have a minimum GPA requirement and non-U.S. citizens are encouraged to apply. Award ranges from $1,500 - $2,500 annually.
To be eligible for a Page Grant, the student must be:
- A student of color and/or American Indian
- A Minnesota high school graduate
- Attend a Minnesota post-secondary educational institution
- Be enrolled full-time throughout the academic year in college
- Willing to complete a minimum of 50 hours by tutoring and mentoring children in grades K-8
From Student to Scholar Virtual Workshop Series
What does it take to be a successful college student? While academic success is crucial, it takes much more to thrive in college. In the Student to Scholar virtual workshops series, Page Scholars will share insights, knowledge, and strategies that helped them make the most of their college experience. Although our workshops are for high school students, families, school staff, and community members are welcome to attend. In February, we will have guest speakers from ECMC and Scholarship America share information about finding and applying for scholarships.
Registration is free for all workshops and attendees can sign up by accessing the link on the flyer or here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/webinarseries2022-23. A zoom link will be sent to registered attendees later.

Book spotlight!
By Stephen King
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis’s parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there’s no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents—telekinesis and telepathy—who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and ten-year-old Avery Dixon. They are all in “Front Half.” Others, Luke learns, graduated to “Back Half,”... “like the roach motel,” Kalisha says. “You check in, but you don’t check out.”
In this most sinister of institutions, the director, Mrs. Sigsby, and her staff are ruthlessly dedicated to extracting from these children the force of their extranormal gifts. There are no scruples here. If you go along, you get tokens for the vending machines. If you don’t, punishment is brutal. As each new victim disappears to Back Half, Luke becomes more and more desperate to get out and get help. But no one has ever escaped from the Institute.
