North Glendale Family Update

August 14, 2021

Good morning!

This Northern girl is for SURE happy that the weather is giving us a bit of break this weekend! Whew!

This week we welcome our families back to the building with an almost-back-to-normal BACK TO SCHOOL night! Please note our safety precautions:

  • staggered times by alphabet (if at all possible ~ but don't miss the event because your assigned hour has a conflict!)
  • everyone entering the building must wear a mask
  • all PTO information, t-shirt give-aways and COOKIES will be on the front lawn

Our staggered times are:

  • 5:30-6:30 ~ families with last names A-L
  • 6:30-7:30 ~ families with last names M-Z

The NG staff is raring to go and super excited ~ hope you are all well!

Please reach out if I can be of support, conversation or service,

You have been getting slammed with emails and updates about KSD Safety Guidelines for the new school year which is great, but I also know it can be a LOT!

Below are the answers to the most frequently asked questions I have been receiving. The full text of the updates is at the end of this update ~ sent out to families on Saturday by KSD.

MASKS: All staff and kids will wear masks at all times while in the building. Short mask breaks will be provided.

LUNCH: Kids will eat in the cafeteria, behind barriers and in assigned seats (in case we have a positive case and have to contact trace).

RECESS: Kids can mix classes at recess and masks are optional.

HAND SANITIZING: We wil continue our mantra of SCRUB IN and SCRUB OUT meaning ALL of us hand saniize when walking into a space and when exiting a space.

Your classroom teachers will share info on whether or not to label specific school supplies, but as far as backpacks, coats, hoodies, lunch boxes, water bottles....please label with a permanent marker. At some point during the school year, your student WILL lose one or all of these ~ help us reunite these treasures with their owners!

Meet the Special School District Team

You have heard from your classroom teachers, now it's time to get to know the other folks who may be working with our NG kids! Over the next few weeks, I will highlight other teams at NG that support our kids. Today's highlight ~ SPECIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT TEAM!

Last weeks highlight: SPECIAL AREAS!

SAVE THE DATE! August 31

Our first PTO meeting of the 2021-2022 school year will be on August 31! Our location will be announced based on updated safety protocols but we HOPE to be in person (fingers crossed!) Our meetings are from 6:30-8:00 pm and ALL are welcome!

Morning Announcements Help Needed!

As we did last year, we need NG kids to send in videos of them saying THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE, the NG PLEDGE and of course, jokes!

(Note, jokes should be school appropriate which basically means they should not have anything to do with bodily functions. I usually tell the kids, if they have to ASK if it is school appropriate, it probably is not....LOL!)

If your family speaks a different language at home, we would LOVE to have any of the above in your home language as well! Parents, siblings, pets are welcome to join the fun.

Pleaee send your videos to Mrs. Sisul at

Please note in the subject bar which entry you are sending!

2021-2022 Fees via My School Bucks: Insurance for District-Issued iPad & Activity Fee

K-2 students will NOT need to purchase iPad insurance this year as they will not be taking home their iPads. Students in grades 3-5 may if there is an academic need or a quarantine situation.

If there is financial hardship, please complete the free & reduced lunch application as that will also apply to your iPad fees.

The Kirkwood School District uses My School Bucks for iPad insurance fees, and activity fees, as well as the iPad user agreement.

If you currently have a My School Bucks account, you can log in and access the school store at the top of the page.

If you do not have a My School Bucks account, you may create a free account. You will need each student’s identification number to create accounts.

To pay for iPad insurance and activity fees through your account:

  • Log in to or create a free account.
  • Click School Store at the top of the page and select Browse All Items
  • Choose the Store Item and add it to your cart
  • Check out!

You can also download the MySchoolBucks" app to set up an account and make payments.

Please reach out to our technology specialist, LAINE MCDONALD with any questions.

Free and Reduced Lunch Information

Although meals will be free to all children again this year; filling out and qualifying for free/reduced meals has the additional benefit of extending reduced costs for iPad/computer insurance and exam costs. In addition, because we are a Title I building based on the number of students qualifying for this program we as a building get additional funding. Currently we use this funding to provide a second counselor and Literacy Coach as well as additional programs and supplies for students. We will be providing these forms in paper copies at Open House and you may complete them ahead of time via this link:

If you need confidential assistance with this process, please reach out to Mrs. Tonya Ampey-Elong, on school social worker.

Last week, the District shared updated health and safety protocols to ensure our classrooms are as safe as possible while maximizing opportunities for in-person instruction. We’re now able to share updated guidance on contact tracing and quarantine requirements, which is based on instructions from the St. Louis County Health Department. Since masks are required in Kirkwood Schools, this updated guidance will reduce the need for students to quarantine and miss school.

The district will follow the chart below for student quarantine procedures. Our goal continues to be providing in-person instruction as safely as possible.

For students, quarantine will not be required when masks are worn properly, there has been at least three feet of social distancing in effect and respiratory symptoms are not present in the COVID-19 positive individual. Quarantine may vary based on length of exposure and direction of the St. Louis County Health Department.

In the case that a student is a close contact to a positive case, the school will immediately communicate via phone call, text, and email with close contacts of a positive or presumed-positive case. When contacted, close contacts will receive information on what actions to take depending on the most current guidance and the specific situation.

For all teachers and staff, people who have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 will be required to quarantine. However, the following people with recent exposure may NOT need to quarantine:

During the school year, the COVID Dashboard will provide information about positive cases in the District. It will launch with regularly updated information by the start of the first day of school on Aug. 24, 2021.
