A Communication Tool for the Seven Hills Staff
Symposium Site Visit/Leadership Day is Friday, February 2:
- A “Synergize for Symposium” preparation check list has been created to help everyone prepare for the event. Please take care of the items on the list – the Seven Hills way! The checklist is linked here:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BCZdxSvNWyxEcwIrCl061R5mTpsc7pVBniQXWk3QfyQ/edit?usp=sharing
- Campus Tour Guides: We will continue to practice Monday - Thursday. We will pull tour guides group by group during Habit huddle and beginning around 1:30 each afternoon. They will go through their tour and then return to class. We have had some amazing parents and staff volunteer to practice with groups on Thursday. It is important to note that they will come in to class tours at these times as well, offering your students another opportunity to practice. If your class is at specials, etc. when they come in, please do not worry.
- Classroom Tour Guides: If you are a host classroom, the tours will be stopping by Monday - Thursday. The tour guides will hand the guests over to your classroom leaders (Note: this is the most awkward part of the tours. Please talk to your class tour guides about who takes the lead, introducing themselves, etc.). Please make sure they are prepared. Remember the talking points shared in the Google Document were a starting point. Your students need to be comfortable sharing their own experiences, etc. If your students will not be in class during the tour practice, please make sure you have practiced each day. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mnmv1y58QCE1-hmmF1tJPwLGR1_uTygdAi67oNJYp2c/edit?usp=sharing
- Student Greeters: Q sent this message last week...."
We would like to have student greeters from each grade level for our site visit next week. These students will be saying hello to the guests as they walk in and leading them to the café. As a team please send me the names of 2 students from your grade level that you believe will represent our school well. Only 2 from the whole grade level. Please send me names as soon as possible."
If you have not submitted names please do so ASAP. Greeters MUST be wearing their red shirt or Lighthouse Team shirt.
- Friday Staff Attire: All staff need to wear "Dress Blacks" on Friday. Black polo and black pants or skirt.
- Friday Student Attire: Please communicate to parents that ALL students need to wear the red, "Oh, the Places I'll LEAD" shirt on Friday. Lighthouse Team members should wear their "Lighthouse Leader" shirt.

- 5th grade: Reading - January 30th, Math February 20, (Science has yet to be determined. We will send that out soon.)
Leadership Notebooks:
Leadership Notebooks are an opportunity for students to actively engage in Habit 1. The desired outcomes are achievement of WIGs, overall growth and achievement as a leader and learner, collection of exemplar work to showcase the hard work throughout the year, student ownership of learning, and sense of pride and accomplishment.
Please plan for a time to discuss how Leadership Notebooks are a tool to showcase their work, while applying the paradigm of Habit 1. These should represent proactive, not reactive, work. They should reflect pride. Students should be writing in their very best handwriting, coloring in scoreboards neatly, etc. Papers should not be crumpled up, etc. in these books. If divider pages are looking torn or students have doodled on them, they should be replaced. Please take time over the next week to communicate expectations and purpose, as well as clean up student Leadership Notebooks. Leadership Notebooks should be "freshened up" by Friday, January 26.
WIG Chart Note:
- Our hope is that the accountability box on the new WIG chart will help students make connections between their work and their progress. We also hope that students are having frequent conversations about their WIGS. Each time you meet with a student, please initial and date inside the box. The students will be excited to share their thinking and their work!
Habit Focus for the Week: Habit 4
Do you have an abundance mentality?
Do you seek mutual benefit in all situations?
Are you considerate and respectful?
Wonder
Precept for the Week: WILL BE SHARED ON MONDAY
WOW! We have had some VERY insightful student reflections about the precept of the week! Don't forget...If your students write reflections about the weekly precept, please place on the counter by the phone for announcements. Students LOVE hearing their work read over the announcements!
Campus and District Announcements and Updates:
Ride changes: It is imperative that teachers check the ride changes carefully every afternoon. If a teammate is absent, your team must have a plan for who will notify the substitute of ride changes. If a parent emails, texts, or calls you with the ride change, please forward to the office as well. The ride change email serves as documentation that all communication from parents regarding dismissal routines has been received. This is a campus safety procedure that must be followed with attention to detail. Thank you in advance for your effort to ensure all students are dismissed safely.
Parent Communication: If a child is leaving school different than they arrived, it is my expectation that the parent be notified. In most cases, the circumstances surrounding the child leaving school different than they arrived may also require a visit to the nurse. It is not the nurse's sole responsibility to contact the parent, as the nurse does not have all of the information surrounding the reason for the clinic visit. Some examples of how a child may leave school different than they arrived might be: in different clothing, with a wound or injury, emotionally upset. Thank you for your efforts to partner with parents to keep them informed.
Writing Buddies: Have you met with your Writing Buddies? How often are you meeting? Are you providing meaningful feedback to your buddy about their writing? If you have questions about feedback, please talk to Laura and/or Kevyn! Thank you for your support of our 4th grade writers!
