VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - THE 'VS' WAY
Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward
Our Values: I.R.O.C.K
Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind
Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai
SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE INCLUSIVE'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'Kind'.
To be 'inclusive' and welcoming to all our new Vogeltown learners is the 'Vogeltown Way'. We show 'inclusiveness' as part of our school vision of Manaaki Tangata - Caring for the people.
Being a 'Vogeltowner' is being a good citizen of our community - someone who is inclusive, respectful, original, courageous and kind.
SCHOOL GOAL: 'TO BE INCLUSIVE'
WHAT: WELCOME BACK TO 2022 – To treat everyone the same, our VS family! Be INCLUSIVE!
WHY:
We are a welcoming school and we want all learners and whanau to feel safe and happy here
Being an ‘inclusive’ learner you show the school vision of ‘Caring of the people’ - Manāki tangata
Vogeltown is one big ‘whanau’ and we welcome & involve all people to our family – being ‘inclusive’
HOW:
By being a ‘Vogeltowner’ you show ‘inclusiveness’ by involving everyone - regardless of creed, race or gender.
By involving anyone in your group - whether it be a game, a class task, sitting together at lunch
By supporting other people and accepting everyone has differences - being collaborative
By being a positive Vogeltown citizen - keeping a positive attitude when working with others
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You can work collaboratively and positively with other people
You are welcoming and accept people into your game, group or task
You can support others - making sure everyone feels included in your group, class and school
You are a ‘Vogeltowner’ showing inclusiveness and Manāki tangata
You have respect for the feelings and well being of others
TE REO FOCUS FOR THE WEEK
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
We have appointed our Whanau Leaders for 2022 and you can read this below. We are looking forward to doing some whanau events in our syndicates and these leaders will be instrumental in leading the teams and organising the events.
I know it is a bit distressing to hear that the Covid variant Omicron has moved in to the district and into a couple of local schools. We knew this was going to happen and we are planned for this. As a result of recent news this week, we have moved to an even more cautious approach at Vogeltown - you can read this below in our 'Covid update'. We will continue to stick with our current protocols and introduce our new protocols on Monday. This is all done in an attempt to slow the spread across our school sites and into our community.
If you do have any symptoms, please get tested. If your child(ren) is sick, then please keep them home and let us know. If you have a confirmed 'close contact' in your home, then please contact Jeremy asap.
We are very fortunate to have such an awesome Vogeltown community. Thanks for your ongoing support and kind words.
HE WAKA EKE NOA - WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER

FROM OUR CLASS REPS - RM 10
Hi am Indi. I am one of Room 10's Class Reps. My favourite colour is ocean blue. I have a dog he is an American Staffy his name is Ice. I like skiing, hockey, biking, swimming and pretty much every sport. In the summer holidays every year me and my family go out to Urenui. We have two caravans.
Im looking forward to being term one and two class rep. I look forward to working with all the kids on lots of projects round the school.
From Elsie:
Hello! I’m Elsie, one of the class reps for Room 10, Term 1 and 2. (I enjoy hanging out with my friends and going swimming) :D What it takes to be a leader: I think that to be a leader you have to be all of the IROCK values and more! (-Inclusive-Responsible-Original-Courageous-Kind) I think that you also need to be well-rounded, meaning you're involved in lots of activities and sports and things like that. For those of you who want to give it a shot: I suggest if you wanna try it out you might as well but if you don't get it. You still have one last try! (term 3 and 4) From Elsie:)
ROAD PATROL
Kia ora whanau,
Mr George is still after some help with road patrol. Any volunteers for road patrol need to be fully vaccinated. We still have a few spaces we are trying to fill on the following dates:

* Tuesday afternoon
* Wednesday morning
* Wednesday afternoon
Thanks to all our parents/caregivers who are currently giving us a hand with road patrol, we really appreciate it!
LUCKY BOOK CLUB
If you haven't placed an online order before, you will need to register yourself on that website.
COVID-19 - 'RED' SETTING - 'UPDATE'
As a result of recent cases and numbers nationally going up, we have begun an even more cautious approach at Vogeltown.
Beginning next week we will become 3 islands at Vogeltown. We are lucky that by geography our school is actually 2 schools.
From next week (until we feel safe enough to discontinue) we will:
Not have any buddy class activities happening across sites.
No duty swaps across sites
Juniors will not be using the library from Monday 21/2
No staff meetings together in person
Syndicate meetings will still happen, but spaced out
We will be limiting all interaction across the sites
Paetoki and Huatoki teams, from Monday, will have different break times
We are doing these things, as well as the protocols we already had in place, to help slow the spread at Vogeltown School. Our goal is to keep the staff, students and community as safe as we can.
Our response to Omicron at Vogeltown School will be dependent on various scenarios that could play out within our school community. At all times we will be following the requirements set out by the Ministries of Health and Education.
Scenario One: Business as usual. School is open for all students. For any students needing to isolate at home, we will provide access to distance learning (learning from home).
Scenario Two: Cases within the school community are affecting student and staff attendance for extended periods of time. We will move to a mixed model of onsite learning and distance learning (learning from home).
Scenario Three: Cases within the school and community are significantly affecting student and staff attendance for extended periods of time and onsite school programmes cannot operate. We will move to distance learning (learning from home) only.
Scenario Four: Case numbers are such that the school cannot operate in any capacity. School is closed. No learning options are available.
Communication
We will communicate with all families through Facebook, email and the Skool Loop app. If we need to contact families of individual classes, we will do this through Seesaw. If it is an emergency, then this will be communicated through our eTAP (SMS) system via text or email.
If you, or anyone in your family have contact with a 'close contact' or someone in your family is a confirmed 'close contact' please let Jeremy know.
Thanks again whanau - He waka eke noa, We are all in this together!

MR O'S FRIENDLY REMINDERS
1) Please remember to contact the school office if your child is absent. You can do this via Skool Loop, text 021 753 680 or ph 06 753 6843. Please do not use SeeSaw for student absences - these must come through the office.
2) Please be courteous before and after school with parking around the school sites. We have lots of kids and not enough parks, so please allow time to get to school and be patient around the streets.
3) If you, or anyone in your family is a 'close contact' of Omicron, please let Jeremy know asap.
Thanks whanau
