Online Registration for Returning Students

Parents, online registration for the 2016-17 school year will open next Monday, May 16th, at 8:00 am. Registration will remain open until Friday, June 3rd at 1:00 pm. Registration will open again in August, but a $25 late fee per student will be assessed at that time.

Registration is quick and easy - you will not need to pick any lunch options at this time. To register, all you need is the student number and 4 digit password for any returning student in your family. This is the same information you would use to get into PowerSchool or to sign up for parent teacher conferences. Please contact the office if you need a student number and password for your child.

You will find the link to online registration on our school website, www.ogschool.org starting next Monday, May 16th. We ask parents to do this ASAP to get it off your to-do list!

Early Morning Library Hours

Early Hours in the Junior High Library will end Tuesday, May 17th.

Curriculum Corner

Hello Oak Grove Community,

Recently, our family spent an afternoon rolling dice. The person who had rolled the larger number earned a point and the first person to 10 won. Apparently, this was “the best game ever” according to my 3 year old. Remember, as the weather gets nicer, it’s still important to keep our students engaged during these last few weeks of school.

Here are several tips to keep those mathematical minds working through the end of the school year and all summer long.

  1. Play math or logic games. Puzzles are a great way to work on spacial awareness and perseverance with challenges.

  2. Always be encouraging and supporting their thinking. Ask, “How did you get that answer?” or “Can you explain your thinking?”

  3. Don’t focus on speed, focus on accuracy. Learning is not a race but an opportunity to expand your skill set. You don’t start running races until you learn the proper technique and start with a nice jog.

  4. Encourage a growth mindset. Instead of only praising a child when they get something right, praise them for their efforts and ability to keep going in the face of struggle. This will show them that it’s about the learning and not about the right answer.

Art Show

This year's annual Pauly Honda Art Show was a great success! The new display of student artwork looks great at the dealership! Nine different musical groups performed for students, parents and employees, and refreshments were provided by Pauly Honda. This was the first year we had a raffle during the opening event and students won gift cards from a variety of places. Thank you for coming out and supporting your art students! Go check it out if you missed the opening on May 4th!
