BDJH PTA News

MAY 16, 2023

thank you volunteers!

Our 8th Grade Dance was a success!

Our students enjoyed a night full of music, dance, games, karaoke, food, snacks and lots of fun! We wish them all the best in High School.

We want to express our gratitude to everyone who helped make this event possible.

First, to our Principal, Mr. Moussavi. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to make this event a reality.

To all of our staff and faculty that came out on the night of the event. To Mr. Nethery (8th grade AP) and Mr. Daniels (6th grade AP) in particular for their unwavering support.

And to our team of custodians, always ready to take on any challenge.

We would also want to acknowledge and thank our many committee chairs, without whom this event would not have been possible:

Decorations - Stacey Mills, Tasha Syzdek, Jacqueline Stahl

Food - Vicky Georgas, Heba Bushnaq

Wall of Fame - Kathleen Brennen

Volunteers - Vicky Constantinides

Carnations - Allison Lindberg

Photography - Risa Park and Jenny Kumar

To all of our volunteers who worked tirelessly on this, month after month. Also, thank you to all of the parents who helped design, set up, chaperone, take down, and transport, materials and decorations.

Last but not least, to Kate Clark, our Chair Coordinator and the driving force behind the whole 8th Grade Dance. She embarked on this task and completed it with the focus and determination that great leaders possess. Thank you for your time, attention, effort, patience, and devotion.

We would have not been able to do all of this without Kate, the head committees and all our volunteers.

Thank you so much,

BDJH PTA

*LEGISLATIVE/ADVOCACY UPDATE*

The 88th regular session of the Texas Legislature is winding down, which means the pace is picking up.

The House passed House Bill 4402 which would broaden accountability standards for public schools (minimizing the impact of the STAAR tests), and Representative Jetton voted for it.

You can call his office and thank him for supporting public education.

We’ll keep track of HB 4402 as it moves through the Senate Committee on Education.

Also, yesterday, Texas PTA posted a video about making a public comment electronically.

Texas House Public Education committee is going to hear an important bill tomorrow and isn’t allowing public testimony, so the only recourse we have is electronic testimony (which is super easy to do). Please click on the link to find out more. https://fb.watch/kxiZMjwsoL/
