New Teachers Guide to Instructional Technology

Welcome to Northwest High School from Instructional Technology!

As you begin your work at NHS, we wanted to give you some resources to help get you going on the right track. Although we have an abundance of technology at Northwest ISD, this will provide you with information about the most pressing things. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Webpage

Schoolwires Teacher Website-Every teacher has a webpage to communicate an overview of the courses you teach. This is usually a place where teachers introduce themselves, their credentials, schedule, basic information about their courses and links to your netSchool pages(s). I recommend getting this set up prior to your first classroom instruction day. That will ensure that students and parents have some information about you and how to access your netSchool page. (Most teachers only update their Schoolwires webpage twice a year, so it’s a good thing to get knocked off your to do list.) Here is a tutorial video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ivH-gz4MDY

NetSchool

NetSchool Learning Management System- NISD uses the Moodle platform as our learning management system and we refer to it as netSchool. When teachers set up their course they can post assignments, resources, quizzes, announcements, etc. Students can access netSchool on any device with an Internet connection. They can upload homework, respond to forums, and take quizzes. This is also a way for parents to stay current on student assignments, work turned in, and general information about your courses. Log in information is your network credentials-first initial, followed by last name and password is your employee ID number. NetSchool pages are updated often to reflect class resources, tutorial videos, and assignments.

Here is a brief tutorial video that will help you set up your course: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Tybd_U2Tno

Students enroll themselves in your course, but you set up the parameters for them to do so: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98L1-oBuOFw

What other information should I have on my netSchool page? Your name, preferred contact information, tutorial schedule, summative assignment should be posted on the calendar. Need inspiration? Here is one sample, but feel free to look at other teachers: http://moodle.nisdtx.org/course/view.php?id=10500

Lesson Plans

Lesson Plans in Eduphoria-We use Eduphoria for our lesson plans. We recommend talking to others on your team to see if they utilize a team planner or only their individual planners. Your mentor and other teammates are good support for Eduphoria! Here is a video that helps you set up your planner. http://youtu.be/ti762407ZFo

Grades

Grades in eSchool-eSchool is the program we use for grades and attendance. Your gradebook contact person is your mentor, department head, or Kara Lea Deardoff.

Technology Assistance

If you need help with your projector, printer, docking station, etc. log into Eduphoria and click on "helpdesk". This will send your request to the technology department. We recommend making sure your dock, projector, and printer all work before school starts. If something does not work, put in a helpdesk immediately so that the technology department has time to take care of your needs. The beginning of the year is an extremely busy time for them, so the earlier you put in requests, the better!

If you need to install a printer, click here for a how to video. This only works for networked printers. If your printer does not show up on this list, please put in a helpdesk.

Tablet Room

Once the year begins, the students have access to the tablet room located right next to the student union. This is run by the technology department and students are able to drop off their tablet if they have any issues with it functioning properly. They are normally open all lunches every day, except Wednesday.
