CHS Celebrates National Merit Semifinalist and Commended Students:
National Merit Semifinalist: Brendan Chapko
The 2018 PSAT/NMSQT served as an initial screen of more than 1.5 million entrants to the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. The Selection Index scores of students who met program participation requirements were used to designate a pool of about 16,000 Semifinalists on a state allocation basis. Semifinalists are the highest scorers in each of the 50 states and represent less than one percent of each state’s high school seniors. Although Semifinalist qualifying scores vary from one state to another, the scores of all Semifinalists are extremely high.
National Merit Commended Students:
Makena Armstrong
Andres De La Lama
Charlize J. Niswanger
Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success and are in the top 3% of scores. Congratulations to the above 4 students for their accomplishments on the PSAT during their junior year.
Student ID's
ALL freshman are required to stay on campus during lunch. If a freshman leaves the campus without permission, he or she loses the right to earn off-campus privileges for 2nd semester.

Last name P-Z - meet your new counselor!
Mr. Morgan Cummins is the new counselor for those with the last names that start with P-Z:
My name is Morgan Cummins and I am excited to join the Counseling staff this year. I will be working with students and families with last names P-Z. As a product of the Coronado school system, I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to our community. After graduating from CHS in 2003, I attended Claremont McKenna College for an undergraduate degree in History & Government and then went on to National University to get my Master’s in School Counseling. While I took the more traditional post-secondary route, one of my brothers went to Community College, one went into the military, and one entered the work force after high school, so I look forward to supporting all students regardless of their post-secondary plans. Please know that my door is always open and that my inbox is just a click away if there is anything that I can do to help ensure that your experience at CHS is memorable.

Request to Participate - CUSD gathers input from CHS families:
We need your input on future programs, experiences, and opportunities for students across CUSD. To gather your feedback, we’re using a tool called Thoughtexchange. All of our voices matter, so your participation is crucial and valued.
You’ll be asked to respond to one open-ended question, consider and assign stars to some of the ideas shared by others (20 to 30 is ideal), and learn what’s important to the group.
Your thoughts and stars are anonymous. You can come back as often as you’d like to participate and, in fact, we ask that you do come back to star some of the new ideas shared since you first participated. The ratings will help us understand the most important areas to focus on for future programs, experiences, and opportunities.
Participation will be open until October 14, 2019
Parents, please encourage your child to participate in this Thoughtexchange.
