CSD Update
WEEK #13, Nov. 12, 2021, Cambrian School District
Dear Cambrian Families,
Can you believe Thanksgiving is less than 2 weeks away? Our classes have been so busy as the autumn has flown by! We’ve had so many events/activities in the district this past few weeks; here are a few things for you to note:
Vaccinations
Cambrian School District is committed to providing quality care for all of our students, and we have great news! We are partnering with AACI to offer a free COVID-19 vaccine for ages 5-11 on 11/22 at 2 p.m. - 8 p.m. for the first shot and 12/13 at 2 p.m. - 8 p.m. for the second shot. Also, children can get just the second dose, if they have already received the first dose.
.
- The location of the mobile vaccine clinic will be at the Professional Development Center at the District Office, 4115 Jacksol Drive, San Jose, CA 95124.
- Parents have an opportunity to fully vaccinate their students before Holiday Break
- Patient Pre-Registration Link - https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/8153037af79e4326be89618d4225a8bb
AACI will be taking care of consent and waivers signage at the event. Parents MUST pre register their children before the event. Now is your chance to have your child vaccinated, if you choose, free of charge!
Also, the Santa Clara County Office of Education held a Vaccination Town Hall Meeting Monday night. In case you missed it, here is a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rder6D_JoVc
STEINDORF STUDENTS IN THE NEWS
Last week I was so proud of our second graders at Steindorf STEAM School for their hard work on a monarch butterfly project based learning unit. Glad NBC Bay Area news and the San Jose Mercury News recognized their efforts as well! Click here to watch the NBC news story on the students, and click here to read the SJMN story.
SARTORETTE RECEIVED A GRANT!
And speaking of saving the monarch butterfly, congratulations to Sartorette for receiving a grant from the Happy Hollow Foundation to create a healthy habitat for the monarch butterfly. The 2nd and 3rd grades will work on planting that will create a pollinating environment. Bravo and thank you to the Happy Hollow Foundation.
FARNHAM TKers MAKING A DIFFERENCE
I was so touched to see that Farnham’s TK students created poppy pictures in honor of Veterans Day. The red poppy came to symbolize the blood shed during battle and often veterans across the globe wear a red poppy on Veterans Day. I love how TKer Dominic went to breakfast yesterday and found a veteran to give his poppy to and then thanked him for his service. Precious!
PRICE WALKS FOR MENTAL HEALTH
I am so proud of the Price students and staff who came together to raise funds for mental health last month. Price students walked during PE classes to raise funds for NAMI WALKS SILICON VALLEY (National Alliance for Mental Illness).
Students and staff made 1,000 bags with inspiring quotes and sayings to represent those with mental illness. Price raised $12,183 for NAMI. A big thank you to the following: Mr. Olsen - creating videos for PNN, Ms. Johnston, Ms. Morrone, Mr. Drake, Mr. Kimure. Mr. Segovia, Mr. Hunt for running the event during PE All the students who came early in the morning to set up for the event. Ms. Morrone & Mr. Majors for the teachers who raised the most money.
A big thank you to Price families, students, and staff for helping with the event. It was our entire community that came together to make this event a success.
BAGBY’S HALLOWEEN FUN DAY AMAZING
Special thanks to all who made Bagby’s recent Halloween Fun Day possible. I am so impressed with this community of staff, students and families. It was fantastic to see the students enjoying the activities and excitement that day! The classes were creative and fun and engaging and everyone had a blast!
As a reminder, Cambrian schools will be closed the week of Thanksgiving, November 22-26. We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving break, enjoying family and friends.
Thank you again for your partnership to make Cambrian great.I am so proud to be a part of this outstanding district.
Have a great day!

COVID-19 Asymptomatic Screening
We are partnering with California’s Valencia Branch Laboratory and Color (their registration system) to bring no cost, asymptomatic COVID-19 screening testing to our students and staff. Your child may also get COVID-19 asymptomatic testing from your healthcare provider or from the Free Santa Clara County COVID-19 Testing Sites.
For the month of November, our testing program will be on Wednesdays, from 1-3:00 p.m. at the Cambrian School District Office. As we determine the interest in screening testing, we will adjust our schedule. This is one tool in supporting a safe return to school.
NOTE: If you want to volunteer at your child’s school and are not fully vaccinated, please consider using this service to have your COVID-19 test completed, in order to show your child’s school your negative test result before volunteering.
If you are interested in having your child participate in the COVID-19 Asymptomatic screening program, please follow the steps below. You must register at least 24 hours before the test.
If you have already registered for a previous testing date at the District Office, you do not need to register again.

In case you haven’t heard, along with COVID-19 Pfizer booster vaccinations, the County of Santa Clara will now administer booster shots to those who received the Johnson & Johnson or Moderna vaccine and are eligible under CDC guidelines. County clinics are taking appointments at www.sccFreeVax.org and everyone eligible is encouraged to receive a booster shot.
People who received their initial series with any of the three COVID-19 vaccines (Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, and Moderna) may now be eligible for a booster. Boosters are recommended for:
Everyone 18 and older who received their Johnson & Johnson shot 2 or more months ago.
Most people who received their Pfizer or Moderna shot 6 or more months ago:
Those who are 65+, 18 and older living in a long term care facility, or are 50+ with an underlying condition, are strongly urged to get their booster as soon as possible.
Those who are 18 and older and have an underlying medical condition, or work in a setting that may increase their risk of exposure, may also consider getting a booster
Boosters provide important additional protection because we now understand that the protection from the initial vaccine series may decrease over time, and a booster shot is highly effective in preventing serious hospitalization and death. Find a variety of drop-in or appointment-based sites for your booster at www.sccFreeVax.org

Housing Support Request for the 2021-2022 School Year
We are so thrilled to have students back on campus to support and educate. The impact of COVID-19 continues to remain with us as we adapt our educational practices in meeting the needs of our students, family, and community that we serve. Knowing that the pandemic’s impact is broad and changing in ways that we may not fully realize, this communication is being sent to identify any supports that your student may be entitled to under the McKinney-Vento legislation.
If your housing situation has recently changed please complete this survey: https://bit.ly/CSDhousingchange and we will be sure to reach out to you. If your housing situation meets the criteria identified by the Cambrian School District’s Housing Questionnaire and your child is eligible, we can provide additional supports throughout the school year. Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s development.
