NEW SCHOOL CALENDAR

The district school board approved a new calendar. Please note that our early dismissal days are now FULL days. Also, we will be getting out of school in May instead of June. Visit http://goo.gl/atwWSe to see the explanation and find a link to the new calendar.

Thanksgiving Lunches

We will be hosting parents for Thanksgiving lunches on the 18th and 19th.

Due to the long lines that we typically experience on these days, I encourage you to pack a lunch for your student on the 18th. We will be having a picnic lunch in the classroom as the cafeteria tables will be reserved for parents and students in grades PK, K, 2, and 4. Students will still be able to purchase from the cafeteria if needed.

First grade will be having our Thanksgiving lunch on the 19th. If you signed up to eat lunch with your student, you will be eating in the cafeteria! The students that are not eating with parents, will be eating lunch in the classroom. Again, I encourage those students that will not be eating with their parents to bring their lunch so that they can avoid long lines in the cafeteria. Students will still be able to purchase from the cafeteria if needed.

Specials

This is our PE rotation. Make sure that your child has the appropriate footwear on the days they go to PE.

Please also make sure that your students brings their library book to school daily. They are allowed to read them while waiting to enter class in the morning. They are also able to visit the library to exchange books on days that they do not go to the library during specials. They do need their library books on the days that they go to library!

Writing

This week we will be taking the story elements that we created last week and putting them together to write a story.

We have stories about magical dogs, dinosaurs, evil kings, and many more!

Reading

This week we will continue to infer what the author is telling us using clues from the text and our schema (background knowledge). We will also review making connections.

Science

We continued our study on matter last week.

This week we will begin our study on energy. We will focus on heat energy first, and then move into light and sound energy when we return from Thanksgiving break.

Math

This week we looked at 2D shapes and their attributes (sides and vertices). Students search throughout the room to find real world examples of shapes. We also created our shapes based on the attributes that were given.

Social Studies

We talked about Veterans Day and also began talking about Thanksgiving customs. Mrs. Poindexter (Navy Veteran) came into our class and discussed what Veterans' Day means to her and told us about her experiences in the Navy. The students enjoyed getting to ask her questions as well!

This week we will continue to talk about Thanksgiving and compare the first Thanksgiving with Thanksgiving today.
