Mission Statement

Northwood Elementary School will provide higher-level learning opportunities for all students to maximize their potential in a safe, nurturing, respectful, and diverse environment.
PBIS Matrix/May Lesson Focus - Recess/Playground

Please focus on "Recess/Playground" during this month. Please REVIEW and PRACTICE all four areas in the OAKS Matrix related to this behavior. Be prepared to discuss with your colleagues and share lessons.

Relay for Life - Penny Wars/Donations

Please encourage students to bring in donations to the office. We have a tube to fill. There are marks along the way up that will earn rewards for the school/students. THANKS! This is a great cause.

Educator Effectiveness -

Please refer to separate Note that was sent this past week. Questions, ask!

Pearson - Make sure you are up to date

Please check the Assessment Calendar and make sure you know what you need in for 4MP.

All items should be in Pearson for all previous marking periods. Please verify you have all items in.

Thank you.

Pics

Please check out the district website. It is great to see a Northwood picture on the site.

Please continue to send pictures of "learning in action" to P. Sutterfield (sutterfieldp@royaloakschools.org). Make sure students are not on the media opt out list. Thanks.

Dates to Remember : Check Google Calendar

Please check for assemblies, days off, Chromebook signup, etc. Please put your field trips/events on the calendar once approved.

Behavior/Surveys/Forms from outside agencies/individuals

This is a reminder as it has been the practice at Northwood.

Please remember that only the legal guardian of a student can access information about a student unless the office has a district release form.

Any outside requests for teachers to complete forms should go through administration; administration will work with parents and teachers to be sure that all necessary releases for communication are completed. Following this process makes administration aware of what is being asked. Forms that arrive directly from parents to teachers should be rerouted through the principal’s office. Communication between all individuals and entities involved in caring for children is critically important.

We will keep a copy of the form, send one to the appropriate person and give the teacher a copy back. Thank you.

Odds and Ends

*Please return to your class on time after lunch. The lunch monitors are on on a tight schedule. Thank you.

*Now is a good time to add comments to the 4MP report card. That way you are not overwhelmed at the end of the year. Recommended by a teacher.

*When is the last time you looked at your webpage? Is it up to date?

*Thanks to the PTA for a fabulous celebration of staff. Remember to shoot them a thank you.

*Thanks for supporting the Wearin the Wind campaign!

*I am glad we have teachers attend events to represent all of us. The Junior Olympics was no exception.

*We are promoting Waste Free Wednesday Lunch until the end of the year. Please encourage students/parents.

*Mileage forms should be turned in on a regular basis.

*Field Trips: Consider getting the end of the year Field Trip information out early. You can avoid delays in getting checks that way and have it off your plate!

MLK Day 2017

I am writing to invite you to a planning meeting on Thursday, June 9, 2016, from3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. in the Royal Oak Schools Board of Education Room, 800 DeVillen, Royal Oak, for the purpose of planning a community-wide recognition/celebration for the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday on Monday, January 16, 2017.

The concept that has been discussed informally by persons in the Royal Oak Schools as well as members of the Royal Oak and Berkley Pastor's Association has been this:

  • Community Breakfast
  • Community Recognition/Celebration Remarks (brief)
  • Sending of Teams to Work Sites for a Day of Service

The agenda for our June 6, 2016, at 3:30 p.m. meeting is as follows:

  • Organize a planning committee,
  • Develop a timeline and planning tasks,
  • As needed, organize subcommittees
  • Identify leadership for the roles defined above.

The plan is to leave the meeting on June 9, 2016, with a planning framework in place that will allow a Community Celebration of the MLK Holiday in 2017 to occur.

We need your help!
