A Busy Ending to a fun week at OLMP!
Our 6 man football team had an important game. They closed their season with a 5-1 record and defeated Edson on Friday 62-52 to gain a birth to the teir 2 6 man Alberta football final vs Cold lake next week. Head coach Mr. Stacey and Mr. Wispinski have done a great job and the seniors are leading the team to a hopeful tier 2 Championship.
Friday Night closed with the Elk Island Catholic Schools community event with Dr. Jody Carrington that was put on in partnership with the Camrose Association for Community Living (CAFCL). It was a packed event that closed with a standing ovation.

Book Recommendation
Book Recommended: The One and Only Ivan
Author: Katherine Applegate
Recommended by: Jocelyn Armstrong (OLMP Parent)
Book Description: The One and Only Ivan is a children’s novel about a silverback gorilla named Ivan who has been living in captivity. Having spent years behind the glass walls of his enclosure in a shopping mall, Ivan has grown accustomed to humans watching him and hardly even thinks about his life in the jungle. Ivan occupies himself with television, his friends Stella and Bob, and his love for painting. But when he meets Ruby, a baby elephant, taken from the wild, he is forced to see their home through new eyes. This a heartwarming novel inspired by a true story, is written in first person from the point of view of Ivan and really has readers seeing through Ivan’s eyes.
Why it is recommended: Although the book is a children’s novel, it’s a great read for any age! My 10 year old girls and I read this book at the same time…they would read it before bed and then I would read it later in the evening. In the morning we would chat about the book. Aside from the heartwarming story (which any animal lover will be drawn to) this book is written to easily engage readers. Even the most reluctant readers! The chapters are short and the pages are not crowded with words making it a quick and easy read! The language is fun and interesting and the fact that it’s written from the point of view of a gorilla keeps you engaged and entertained. I highly recommend the One and Only Ivan!
OLMP PARENT ALL CALL - We'd love to get more parent book recommendations of literature you'd recommend to other parents or books that parents could read with their children. Please forward your book recommendations to Mrs. Smith at kristys@eics.ab.ca with the subject "READ THIS BOOK"
