Staff Spotlight

Mac Yocum

Mac Yocum is the Learning Lab coordinator at FHS. He works with every student in the school during their PLT (personal learning time) and is also a Employment Specialist with the FHS Community Work Transition Program. Yocum also coaches at FHS. He is the head Cross Country Coach and the Assistant Girls Basketball Coach. He also is the Executive Director of the Frankfort Education Foundation.

Coach Yocum is a graduate of Mercer County High School and EKU where he studied Broadcasting Communications. After several years on the radio, he decided his passion was helping students. He has coached for over 25 years and been helping students in various roles for more than 15 years.

Coach Yocum is married to Julia Harmon-Yocum and has 4 almost grown children. When Coach Yocum is not at school, he is enjoying watching his kids play sports and traveling with his family. He has a love for history, historical places and research and hopes to write a book someday.

Yocum says, "FHS is such a unique and historical place. My curiosity with its history led me to want to help students understand that FHS has produced so many successful graduates and that they can add their names to that list."

Students going to STLP State

Caleb Ruble, John Booe and Ben Rome were invited to State Competition with their project. The premise was to teach SSS students how to work on/with technology, essentially have a Help Desk at SSS like we do at the high school. In addition, they are working on building how-to tutorials and videos of how to do the work that would be available for students and teachers.

KUNA - Kentucky United Nations Assembly

For any students wanting to attend the Kentucky United Nations Assembly (KUNA), they will be meeting every Wednesday from 3:10 - 4 until the conference in Mr. Hecker's room.

On March 17-19 Mr. Hecker plans on taking the group to the Marriott, in downtown Louisville, for the annual KUNA convention. This is a wonderful opportunity for your student to learn about the cultures of various other countries through a mock United Nations structure.

This year, we will be representing two countries: Mexico and Germany. Through this experience, your student will be exposed to various issues that must be addressed by the United Nations, by becoming a representative of their chosen country and creating resolutions that will be debated and voted on by students at the KUNA conference.

The total cost to attend the conference is $240 and money is due to Mr. Hecker by Thursday, February 19th. The Kentucky YMCA has financial assistance available. Please use the linked form, which is due on Thursday, February 7th.

Miss FHS Pageant February 23

Miss FHS is scheduled for February 23. Student application packets are due Dec. 19 before we go to break for both contestants and volunteer workers. The theme this year is 24K Magic. Talk with Ms. Chesnut if you have questions.
