Marketing Our Feeder
The Lincoln/Madison Feeder Pattern is a point of great pride in the South Dallas Community. We boast the highest performing neighborhood school in Dallas ISD- Charles Rice, a Communications Magnet, Culinary pathway and Engineering Academy- Lincoln and an Information and Technology Academy- Madison. Although there is much about which we should be proud in our Feeder, how well are we marketing ourselves? Who else knows about the great things that are happening in our schools? We are all extremely busy, and focused on student achievement (as is expected), but the time has come that we must boast more. This begins with how our staff members speak about our schools to the students. Do they encourage students to matriculate to Dade, Lincoln or Madison or do they push our best and brightest students to apply for magnet schools? Although we encourage choice for our students, we must also first highlight our feeder schools. There are some exciting new developments coming to our feeder including more dual credit courses so that our students can earn college credit while still in high school. We have invited a marketing expert to attend our next Feeder meeting to share strategies. Additionally, this coming Friday, our secondary principals will meet at Dade to discuss our course offerings and ways to market our feeder; capitalizing on the pride that has historically characterized our great schools.
Together, we can positively impact our students, schools and communities. I believe that we have everything that we need to do just that. I believe that each of our schools will meet standard with an increase in distinctions. I urge you to believe with me.

Guided Reading Sweeps/Instructional Audits
Kudos go out to Dunbar for hosting our first Guided Reading Sweep! AP Lakeisha Smith did a wonderful job presenting the PD and tools used at the campus which set the tone and focus for our classroom visits. We visited the K-2 classrooms as well as the istation data room and could really see the teachers' efforts paying off. A special thank you goes out to the Rhoads team (principal and IC) as well as the K-2 reading specialist who stopped by to support the Guided Reading Sweep at Dunbar. In addition to this, Dunbar also hosted an Instructional Audit this week. The teachers worked extremely hard, and the principal was simply expert in explaining the 4 -tier intervention hour which supports students based on the goals set to achieve all 4 indices for accountability purposes. We observed the intervention hour and saw expert support pushed in, small class sizes and targeted instruction based on their tiers. Congratulations go out to 3rd grade teacher, Ms. Abdullah, whose classroom was featured in the Reading Department's newsletter this week! Excellent job Dunbar!
Our next sweep is scheduled at Rhoads on Monday, February 8 at 9:00. Please stop by if you can.
Lincoln Students, Both Past and Present, Shine
Lincoln High School now joins the NFL's Super Bowl High School Honor Roll! This week, the school received a letter from Roger Goodell, Commissioner of the NFL, which honored Lincoln Alumni, Duane Thomas who played in one of the past 49 Super Bowls. The school also proudly displays the golden football received by the NFL on its front counter.
Present -day journalism students shared their 4th volume of their online magazine, The Lincoln Lantern. The students shared a very thought-provoking editorial comparing Super Bowl quarterbacks. Check out the link below.
Leadership Focus and Updates
This week, please make sure that your RLA teachers are spending time focusing on the multiple choice segment of the test; especially at 4th grade where the revising and editing counts 70%.
Reminders:
-Review the 4th 6 weeks common assessments this week during PLCs. The final assessments will be available on 2/5 on CC.
-Principals should provide written feedback to teachers within 48 hours of the spot observation.
-Please note that non-renewals will be somewhat earlier this year due to the Board calendar. If you have teachers who are struggling, ensure that you are making every effort to support their progress.
