Martin placed first in the state in the individual welding competition while Abernathy finished second. The team of Trujillo, Monroy and Gieselman topped the state in the team fabrication competition. They will continue honing their skills for the national competition in June.

Chicks are hatching all around the District

Friday chick update: At Cactus Valley Elementary, this rambunctious chick in Mrs. Yorty's 3rd grade class was named Lemonade due to his yellow-colored feathers. The suspected rooster chirps louder as he gets older, which is why yesterday he was taken over to Miss Ritacco's neighboring 5th grade class to apologize. "He stayed for a visit and then came back to take a nap," says Yorty. "I don't believe he was the least bit sorry since he got a field trip out of it."
