CHANGES to our Volunteer Requirement

Volunteers are such a big part of our Catholic community. We could not do the many, many events without your support. Being a school volunteer gives you the opportunity to share in school-related experiences. It is also a great way to connect with other parents and create a circle of adult friends. More importantly, having a presence at school is a wonderful way to get to know the staff better and show them support.

More importantly, schools that have a strong school volunteer base perform better. We can do so much more when parents share their time and talent.

2022-2023 Volunteer requirement: 15-20 hours.

We know that each family has many demands, so we are allowing a little more flexibility with the requirement. We have volunteer opportunities during the school day, evening, and weekend hours to meet your needs.

Accountability:

We have a new form that parents will use to record the dates, events and number of hours completed throughout the year. This form will be turned in at the end of the year.

Interest Volunteer Survey:

We created a volunteer interest survey that we want all parents to complete. This will identify the volunteer opportunities that you may be interested in helping with throughout the year. We will reach out to you the month of the event to see if you are still interested in volunteering.

****We will help parents complete this survey at Back to School Day.

We are looking for parents to help plan our Annual Gala tentatively scheduled for Friday, February 10th. We will gather a few times to create sub committees such as decorations, food, refreshments, silent auction, live auction, sponsorships, etc. Committees members will sign up for one of these areas. Period check-ins will occur up until the gala.

NEW 2nd Step Curriculum, K-8

We are excited to start a new curriculum at Sacred Heart Catholic School. The Second Step Elementary digital program helps students acquire the skills, knowledge, and mindsets needed to persevere through challenges, set and achieve goals, handle strong emotions, better understand and connect with others, and resolve interpersonal conflicts.

In addition, the program helps develop students’ executive-function skills and promotes a growth mindset (the belief that intelligence and abilities can be developed). Together these skills and mindsets contribute to positive classroom and school climates that serve as the foundation for academic and social success.

Students will be engaged in one lesson per week.

There are four units in the program:

1. Growth Mindset & Goal-Setting

Students learn how to develop a growth mindset and apply strategies to their social and academic lives.

2. Emotion Management

Students learn how to build their emotion vocabularies, practice identifying their own and others' emotions, and recognize the importance of labeling and processing emotions.

3. Empathy & Kindness

Students learn how to recognize kindness and act kindly towards others, and how to develop empathy by learning strategies to take others' perspectives.

4. Problem-Solving

Students learn how to process strong emotions, describe a problem, identify the wants and needs of others.

K-8 School Marathon for Non-Public Education--CHANGE IN FUNDRAISING AMOUNT COLLECTED THIS FALL

Mark your calendar: SCHOOL MARATHON

Saturday, October 1st at 9:15 a.m.

Sanborn Park

What is the Marathon for Nonpublic Education?

The MARATHON is a viable public relations and fundraising activity in support of nonpublic education in Minnesota. The purpose of the marathon is to enable those who support and advocate for nonpublic education to make a public demonstration of their belief and involvement. Nonpublic schools and church religious education programs make a real contribution to the total community. For more information, go to www.mnmarathon.org.

Our goal is for EVERY student to bring in the required $300 fundraising amount for the Marathon. This is NEW this year! We have some fun prizes for the students to help us reach our goal of $44,500. We understand that this may not work for everyone, but we hope that parents will do their best to help us reach our goal.

Why did we change the marathon amount required for Marathon? We would like to collect the required fundraising total in fall, if possible, so that we can use our read-a-thon funds for a new playground structure. The current structure is over 20 years old and we can not purchase parts anymore and it has served us well over the years. We will strat doing research for a new playground structure and begin fundraising. Our hope is that a new structure may be install next summer.

A packet of information will be sent home the second week of school!

Middle School Service Hours

Community service hours support the mission of Sacred Heart Catholic school by engaging students in meaningful volunteer opportunities which enrich the learning experience while teaching civic responsibility and strengthening communities. Being involved in our communities and serving others provides students a sense of purpose and will help prepare them to serve, lead, and succeed.

Students are required to complete community service outside of the regular school day.

Looking for ways to to help pay tuition? MN Fundraising Initiative

Sacred Heart has an opportunity for parents and friends to support your child’s tuition!

MN Fundraising Initiative (MNFI) secures contracts with over 23 venues in the greater Twin Cities area including Target Field, Target Center, Canterbury, and US Bank to operate food and beverage concessions stands at their events.

MNFI organizes teams of volunteers from all over the state of MN and WI who work together to run these stands. In turn, MNFI receives donations from these venues. The donations are then used to award grants to families in local communities to allow youth to attend private school, such as Sacred Heart Catholic School and participate in enrichment activities they may not otherwise be able to enjoy. Checks are mailed directly to Sacred Heart in your name.

Many of our school families use this organization to help pay for tuition.
