Dr. Farest Earns GT Spotlight
Congrats to our GT spotlight teacher, Dr. Farest. She is a master at extending learning and getting kids to push themselves beyond their own expectations of what they are capable of achieving. She’s a big Tom Brady fan!! We think that if he saw her teach, no doubt he would suggest that she is the GOAT of GT teaching!
GT IDEAs Showcase at BES
We are excited to share some of the students' favorite GT projects in our virtual showcase. Please check out the website below to see projects. Some students shared these at end of year celebrations. We are grateful to our amazing GT teachers who consistently strive to extend learning for all students, push critical thinking skills, and provide opportunities for enriched learning in every unit. Great job GT team!

3rd Grade Create a Community Project
Students designed their own community including; landforms, climate, recreation, customs and any other factors they wanted to include.
Native American Research
Students researched Native American dwellings and how indigenous cultures utilized natural resources to create homes.
Geometry 3D Cities
Using their knowledge of geometry, students planned, drew out, and built parts of a city that were put together to create “Fergieville”. Students were given specific criteria and parameters they needed to stay within. This included the number and types of shapes that were to be included in their section of the city.
BES Spring Update
Students served in GT cluster classrooms continued to flourish this semester. We welcomed parents back to campus in March and are looking forward to opportunities to highlight our students' hard work and GT projects at a school-wide evening event next year. Be sure to check out our IDEAs showcase highlighting students' favorite projects throughout the second semester.

GT at BES Fall Update
Did you know that our master schedule provides flexible time for each grade level each day to provide students with differentiation opportunities including enrichment activities and opportunities to participate in complex thinking activities?
Here are just a few examples of projects from each grade level this past semester:
- 1st: students researched animals and created their own books
- 2nd: students are currently creating imaginative stories and have utilized lessons from our Think Law curriculum to engage students in critical thinking activities
- 3rd- students participate in book clubs and have created culminating projects that include creating their own Kahoot it and turning their book into a TV series (watch out Disney Channel :) In math students used their understanding of multiplication and area/perimeter to design their own amusement park
- 4th students have created posters, participated in peer teaching where students lead other students in discussions about learning and have worked with the steam teacher to create models of Native American houses after researching native Texas tribes
- 5th students during their unit on circuits were asked to plan and design their own funhouse that incorporates what they learned about energy and force and motion. They also participated in creating their own mock Macy's Day parade
Furthermore, students in all grade levels have opportunities for pre-assessments allowing the teacher to individualize instruction and offer extension projects for students who have shown mastery of the upcoming units
