Principal's Message
Hello Panther Family,
Happy Friday! I hope everyone is ready to enjoy their extended weekend! Students and families will have off Monday through Wednesday of this week. We will see our scholars bright and early Thursday morning.
Below is some important information to help you prepare for the week ahead.
- October Holiday- Beginning this Monday, October 10th, students will have a student holiday through Wednesday, October 12th. While students are off while our teachers engage in professional development and host parent teacher conferences. Please make sure you mark those days in your calendar! We will see all of our scholars bright and early Thursday, October 13th.
- Conference week is here!- This week our teachers will be conducting fall conferences. These conferences provide opportunities for families to meet with their child's teacher and discuss each child's progress, needs, and strengths. Please make sure to take advantage of this opportunity, as report cards are coming soon. If you haven't scheduled your conference, please do so today!
- Transportation Updates/Reminders- For all of our carpool families, please make sure you scholar has a number. This number should only be given to family members who are authorized to pick up your child. For our bus riding families, please download the Here Comes the Bus app. It will provide up to date information on arrival times of our buses. Finally, transportation changes should be in writing submitted directly to the front office as well as the teacher.
Of course and as always, please don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns atlillym@fultonschools.org..

At Home Math Strategy - Counting On
AT HOME MATH STRATEGY: COUNTING ON
Have you ever asked your child what number comes after 35 and your scholars has to begin counting from "1". Students who typically rely on this method often need the cadence of counting in order to find their placement numerically. What this indicates is that students do NOT innately know how to count from any number.
This is a skill is not only important with mental math, but its the foundation for basic concepts like addition, subtraction and place value that are more prevalent in grades 1st and 2nd grade.
"Count on" in math is a mental math strategy used to add numbers. Using this technique, a student starts with the larger number and “counts on” with the other addends to get to the sum.
For example, if the number sentence is 4 + 3, the student will identify 4 as the larger number and count on three more—“4 … 5, 6, 7”. The answer or the sum is 7. Using the count on math fact, students have to be able to “hold” a number in their minds and then add on to it.
Have your scholars practice counting on from any number within one hundred daily. This can happen any and everywhere like car rides on the way to school, while shopping at grocery store and even during TV commercial breaks.

COMMITTING TO SAFETY AND SECURITY AT AGHES
Here at AGHES, we focus on safety and security everyday. We practice drills, use sign in procedures, and check visitors coming into our building.
However, safety and security is a joint effort with the school and our community. Each month I will run of information on safety and security.
This month our focus are safety drills. Each month we practice several safety drills with your scholars while they are at school. These drills help them to be prepared for a plethora of events which could arise. Talk with your child about the drills and consider creating plans at home for what you and your fam ily might be do if these emergencies arise at home. You could even have a practice evacuation drill, where you and your family practice how to evacuate and where to go in case of emergency.
Too Sick for School
In order to help keep our scholars healthy, we are asking all families to monitor any signs of illness in their children. In the document below, you will find several common childhood illness, symptoms, and guidance how to treat.
