Farm Week
Last week the preschoolers learned about farm animals. They sang Old MacDonald, sorted animals that live on a farm and ones that do not, and made different farm animal art. With Thanksgiving coming up the preschoolers also made some turkeys. Some turkeys were made into hats and others were made with coffee filters and markers. To go along with our farm theme Miss Megan’s class had the fun and messy center where they got to “milk a cow “.

Harry Potter Day
To start the Fantasy reading unit off with a bang, the 5th graders arrived in school to find their classrooms transformed into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The day included using fractions to create potions and solve clues to escape from Azkaban, as well as a shopping trip to Diagon Alley which included some tricky conversions using wizard money. Glasses came out for a closer inspection of literary essays and the reading unit was launched!

We Are Jaguars, Hear Us Roar
The PSMS Thanksgiving break started with a roar as staff and students participated in an ear-splitting, foot-stomping, spirit-raising pep rally. Floor against floor competed in a variety of relay races, the loudest cheer, the best-decorated hallway, and singing the school song. Tug of War matches pitted grade against grade. No rally would be complete without a visit from a necklace-flinging jaguar. Congratulations to the 6th-grade for winning ALL THREE competitions!
Honors Celebration
PSMS held its first Honors Celebration of the year on Wednesday. Proud parents came to celebrate the hard work of their offspring; together they polished off some donuts, listened to speeches by high school seniors and administration, learned about the new CASEL awards, and finally, shared a hug. Congratulations to all our hard workers!
The CASEL awards recognize the "soft skills" that are so important in today's work world. Included are categories such as self-awareness and self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Teachers from each team nominate students exemplifying these characteristics.
