New district website launching this spring

Blue Valley Schools is excited to announce the arrival of its redesigned website this spring. As one of the district's most powerful communication and reference tools, the newly designed site will contain improvements to better engage and inform the Blue Valley community, providing visitors quick and easy access to the information they want most.

The website acts as the virtual front door to the district, serving current Blue Valley community members, prospective students and staff, as well as the general public looking to learn more about the district and the Beyond Expectations educational experience provided to students each and every day.

Some of the key improvements in the new website include:

  • Updated visual design with prominent photos and a modern, open feeling
  • Simplified drop-down navigation
  • Consolidated format conveniently places information on one page, requiring less clicks to access content
  • Streamlined design across all pages to easily locate information from one page to the next

These are just a few examples of Blue Valley's efforts to streamline the website, become more digitized in its operations and build functionality around user preferences. The district's main site will lead the way in the redesign this spring. However, the staff intranet and school and teacher sites will be included in future phases.

Be on the lookout for more communication later this spring as the district prepares to unveil its newly designed website.

5th Annual Walk to REbeL!

We would love your participation in the 5th Annual Walk to REbeL! REbeL is an organization found at the middle and high schools. Join us for a fun-filled morning where you can:

§ Get some exercise

§ Feed your body

§ Tell us what you LOVE about yourself in the photo booth

§ Make something cool in the Lil’ Rebels Kid Zone

§ Bring your well-behaved, calm, and on-a-leash dogs to strut their stuff with you

§ Win a prize, and . . .

§ Become empowered to stage your own RebeLution!

The walk is their largest annual fundraiser and provides critical monetary support for our mission. Whether you participate in the walk, join a team, support an individual or a team with a donation, sponsor the event, or share our event on social media, you will have an impact on our success!

Walk with us to REbeL against…

§ Society’s unrealistic standards of beauty.

§ Advertisements that lower your self-esteem and make you feel “not good enough.”

§ The photo-shopped and digitally-enhanced pictures you see in the media that make you feel “less than.”

§ Any form of bullying.

§ The diet mentality and the practice of making your appearance more important than your health.

§ Negative body image and body discrimination.

§ Being anyone but your beauty-full self.

Please refer to the link below to register for this event and/or receive any information about this program at our school. When you register and pay, the promotional code STUDENT can be used to knock off $10 from registration.

Family Spirit Night April 30th

Reading Takes the Cake,” a PSMS tradition, is a cake decorating contest held in conjunction with our Scholastic Book fair and National School Library Week celebrated this year on April 30th. It is a one day event with a silent auction in the evening. All Prairie Star families are invited to bake and decorate a cake to celebrate the importance of reading and school libraries. Students may enter individually or as teams of 3 or less and may have outside help! Cakes will be awarded prizes in four different categories: GRAND PRIZE, CAKE DECORATED AS A SPECIFIC middle school BOOK, CAKE DECORATED with A READING THEME, and BEST IN SHOW CUPCAKES.

Contest Guidelines:

Cakes should be delivered to the school during the morning of Friday, April 30th.

Cakes may be any shape, size, or flavor but should not be store decorated.

Cakes should be displayed on a disposable tray.

We invite you to be as creative as possible, though cakes MUST have something to do with books or reading. You may select one specific book for your cake; highlight an author; or promote books/reading in general; you may add 3-dimensional objects; you may use pre-formed cake pans; and you may add words or slogans on your cake. Bottom line—your confection must demonstrably have SOMETHING TO DO WITH BOOKS OR READING.

All cakes entered will be considered donated and will be available for sale. Please send your creation on a disposable platter as we will not be able to return cake plates. Michael’s & Hobby Lobby sell cardboard cake forms and cake boxes.

Cakes will be sold in a "silent auction" format on Friday evening from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Bidding will close at 5:00 p.m. Cash or Checks will be accepted.

Proceeds will go towards the purchase of books.

Cakes will be on display in the library during the day on Friday, April 30th –

You are welcome to come by to view and let your mouth water!

Cakes & Reading! Two of my very favorite things! We hope you’ll make plans to join us!

In reading, as in eating, an appetite is half the feast.
