Quarter 3 - January 22nd
ACT/SAT/PSAT Update
ACT
To date (2/10/16), the State of Illinois has not passed a budget. Therefore, a date for the ACT or SAT to be taken by all Juniors at school has not been planned.
I have encouraged all Juniors who are interested in attending college to take the ACT on April 9th at either Beardstown High School or Illinois College. The cost for the ACT is $39.50 or ACT Plus Writing for $56.50. Free and Reduced Lunch students are eligible for a fee waiver, but must come see me well in advance to receive the waiver. The decision to take the ACT or ACT Plus Writing is up the the student. Students are encouraged to see if the college they are seeking admission to requires the ACT Plus Writing before they register for the test.
Registration can be done online at www.actstudent.org . Registration deadline for the April 9th test date is March 4th.
Triopia teachers will be offering an ACT Prep class:
Wednesday, February 17th, 3:30 – 5pm: English – Mrs. Edwards
Wednesday, February 24th, 3:30 – 5pm: Math – Mrs. Carriger
Wednesday, March 2nd, 3:30 – 5pm: Science – Mr. Simonson
Monday, March 7th, 3:30 – 5pm: Reading – Mrs. Friday
*Wednesday, March 9th, 3:30 – 5pm: Snow Date
*Wednesday, March 16th, 3:30 – 5pm: Snow Date
SAT
In late 2015, Illinois decided to cut cost by switching from providing students an opportunity to take the ACT to the SAT.
However, ACT has protested this change, and the ACT vs. SAT debate is still on.
PSAT
PSAT results and question booklets have all been returned to students as of 2/5/16. Students and parents can look at these results to see what subjects they need to improve on.
