Bearcat Brief

Notes from Niki

I'm sorry I have missed a couple of weeks of this. I've had it mostly ready to go and not remembered to send it at the right times.

Can you believe we only have 7 Mondays left in the school year? Easter Break, MAP testing, and the end of the year will be here before you know it, but we have much to accomplish in that time.

  • Next Wednesday will be the training for GLA testing. I am planning on having the testing and non-testing schedule to share with you then. I did a lot of tallying and note-taking trying to get all class hours evened out, but am certainly willing to adjust if there are errors or holes. It will be an "all hands on deck" time of the year to get everyone tested with as little disruption as possible.
  • On April 6, the Behavior Committee members will be traveling to some area middle schools to look at how they have implemented Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (SW-PBIS). If we like what we see, we will be sharing more about it at the next faculty meeting.
  • Don't forget to make your plan to vote on April 4. I certainly have no objections to using your plan time to do that. If you need to make special arrangements, let me know.

Student Showcase

I am so impressed by the quality and variety of things that will be on display during the student showcase. I don't know if I really shared the origins of this event- I didn't just think we needed something else to do.

In the fall, the parent advisory group asked that we have something where students could be the stars. They thought of a talent show, concert, and art show. In refining this idea with some teachers, we thought that being able to show off a little bit of everything- including all academics- would be perfect. I'm really excited about how this event is shaping up and hope you can help promote it with students and get some families to this building in a very non-threatening way. Thank you for all you have done to this point.
