Parent Teacher Conferences
We are beginning to prepare for our fall Parent-Teacher Conferences, which will be held during the evening on October 13th and during the day on October 14th. Please click on the link below to complete the survey below by Monday, September 20th for each student you have attending WMS. We will be offering in person and virtual conferences through WebEx. Once we have an idea on how many families are requesting WebEx conferences versus in person, we will send out a more detailed scheduled. You may contact any administrator if you have questions.
Mask and Water Bottle Reminders
Please make sure you are sending your student with a mask each day.
It is also a great idea to send them with an extra one especially on PE days. Overall the students are doing a great job of wearing their mask, but please continue to remind them to make sure it is covering their mouth and nose at all times.
Please also have your student bring a water bottle to school. The water fountains are shut off, but we do have water bottle filling stations.
Immunizations and Physicals
Please contact the school nurse, Robin Newcomer, if you have questions. 402-390-8652

Excessive Vandalism
This past week we have been made aware of a “TikTok Challenge” that promotes taking school property to steal or destroy it. As a result, numerous bathrooms in our building have seen soap dispensers pulled off walls, feminine product containers be taken, and bags of soap be thrown all over restrooms.
Please talk with your student about respecting school property. In addition, we are asking for help in finding those responsible. If your students reports having information or has seen a video on social media, please let our administrations know so that we can help prevent it from happening again.

Parent AHERA Notifications for 2021-2022 School Year
Annual AHERA Notice
The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act of 1986 (AHERA) requires each public school district to annually notify parents, staff, and employee groups of its asbestos management plans. A management plan is in place for Westside Middle School and is available for review either at the school building or at the Westside Service Center, 9437 J St. Omaha, NE.
This school building was originally inspected in the1980’s and re-inspected by a certified inspector every three years thereafter. The three-year re-inspection and a ceiling tile inspection was conducted in 2019, and periodic surveillance will be conducted as required. No abatement activities are currently in progress or scheduled for the 2021-2022 school year at this building.
The Designated Person responsible for managing the District’s AHERA compliance and the contact person for questions or to review a management plan is the Director of Facilities, Russ Olsen (402) 390-8331.
