Phoenix News
Collegiate Academy at TCC Northeast
August 1, 2021
Phoenix Family,
The 2021/2022 school year is fast approaching! We have been working all summer to be ready for a fantastic experience for all of our Phoenix students and families. The first day of school is Wednesday, August 18. This year will be a very different start to a new school year. Some of our sophomores have never been on campus and those that were on campus did not get the real Phoenix experience! Our plan is to get everyone up to speed as soon as possible. Parents please mark your calendars for our in person Parent Meetings on Wednesday, August 11.
Parent Meetings Information
- Freshmen and Sophomore Parents at 6:30pm at Center Corner on the TCC NE campus
- Junior and Senior Parents at 7:30pm at Center Corner on the TCC NE campus. (TCC Campus Map attached)
There have been several changes in high school faculty, but we are very excited about our new teachers! You are going to love them! Next week we will introduce our new faculty in the Phoenix News, be sure and check them out! TCC NE has provided us with new counseling space and we have an additional part-time counselor to go with it!
I am sure many of you have questions about the new year. We will try to answer those in the coming weeks before school gets started. But here are few items about instruction and attendance that I would like to share at this time.
- All Collegiate Academy and TCC NE classes will be held in person.
- Only Seniors on track for an associate degree are eligible for Optional Flexible School Day
- We will be having Freshmen and Sophomore student meetings on Wednesday, August 18 and Thursday, August 19 to go over Phoenix Expectations and answer student questions.
- All freshmen will need to bring their GCISD device to school on August 18 to exchange for a new laptop. If you do not have a GCISD device, you will be given a GCISD laptop on that day.
We will be sharing bus schedule and pick up/drop off sites as soon as they are available. Please read the rest of the Phoenix News for information regarding textbooks and schedules. We want this to be the best year yet at CA and it starts with communication!
Parents, if you haven't yet, please join our Phoenix Family Booster Club! We want to partner with you for your student's success!
Can't wait to see all students in person on August 18, except seniors on OFSD!
Always grateful,
Bobbe Knutz
From the Assistant Principal
I hope you’ve had a great summer! We are excited to see our Phoenix family in just a few short weeks. Here are some items that you need to start thinking about as you prepare for the fall semester.
Textbooks | All Students:
This week we will request a college enrollment count for each course from Tarrant County College Northeast. Once we have that information, we will begin the process of ordering college textbooks from the TCC bookstore.
After that, students will begin the the process of looking up required materials for each course online. This process will be communicated prior to the first day of class, so it is important to continue reading the Phoenix news on Sundays and check your email regularly for more updates regarding textbooks.
Optional Flexible School Day | Seniors Only:
If you are eligible to obtain OFSDP status, you will receive an email invitation to attend a mandatory meeting with more information, so it is important to check your email regularly for updates regrading OFSDP.
However, below is a brief summary of eligibility and requirements as you are preparing for the fall 2021 semester.
To participate in Collegiate Academy’s Optional Flexible School Day Program (OFSDP), a student must at all times be on track to graduate with an associate’s degree from Tarrant County College by May 2022.
If, for example, a CA student drops or is failing a college class that is necessary for earning an associate’s degree by May 2022, that student may be removed from OFSDP program.
In addition, there are requirements to maintain OFSDP status:
- Students must check in and out with the CA attendance clerk on the days they have classes..
- Attend all high school and college classes as scheduled. Students on OFSDP should not accrue more than 2 absences per semester in any college class.
- Adhere to Collegiate Academy’s attendance and drop policy.
First Day of School Information
We are so excited to start the 2021-2022 school year! This year will be our best year yet at Collegiate Academy and that’s because we’ve prepared for this year as best we could, and that’s what we need you to do as well! In one week (August 8th) your schedule will be finalized. RIght now it’s mostly complete but there are some minor tweaks still happening. However, on August 8th, we need you to do the following things to make sure you’re ready for the first day of school:
ALL CA STUDENTS
- Make sure you have all of the classes that you signed up for at TCC on your high school skyward schedule and that they’re listed during the correct times on your skyward schedule!
- If you signed up for a class during the summer and didn’t tell Mr. Cavanagh, tell him before school starts so we can fix your schedule!
- If you haven’t signed up for fall college classes, email Mr. Cavanagh as soon as possible so we can get you enrolled and we don’t waste a semester!
CLASS OF 2022
We’re going to be doing things a little differently this year with regards to credit recovery and staying on track for graduation.
- If you’re a student that is on track for graduation and has not failed any TCC Courses and has 36 or more college credits entering your senior year this likely doesn’t apply to you.
- If you have failed a TCC Course with a 69 or lower then you’ll take the course through edgenuity for credit recovery or with one of our high school teachers.
- Everyone that has an edgenuity course that they owe for a credit they should have received prior to senior year (English I, English II, English III, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, AP Human Geography, US History, World History, Government, Economics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Speech, PE, Health, or Drama) AND IS NOT CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN THE COURSE AT TCC OR CA will be placed in the course on edgenuity and will have until Thanksgiving break to complete the courses that are owed.
- If a course is not completed prior to Thanksgiving and the student that didn’t complete the course is on Optional Flexible School Day, they will be removed from that program and will be placed in Content Labs with CA teachers until they have completed their courses.
- Make sure you have all of your high school classes on your Skyward schedule. If you think you’ve been placed in the wrong class or have any questions just let me know!
- Seniors should have the following classes
Math Models (if necessary)
Environmental Systems and/or Physics (if necessary)
English IV (if necessary)
World History/Mexican-American History (if necessary)
Pathways IV
College Alg. Support
Study Hall, Content Lab or Optional Flexible School Day (Blanks)
CLASS OF 2023
- This is your first year that you can have independent study. This program is one step away from the Optional Flexible School Day that the seniors have, and offers much more freedom and flexibility than study hall has in the past. Students with Independent study are students that are on track for their Associate’s Degree and they’ll have access to the college campus to work in the library or the other facilities.
- If you are not on independent study yet, but you’d like to be then the ball is in your court. You need to show responsibility this semester by attending and passing your college classes, attending and passing your high school classes, and we will reassess everyone’s positions over winter break.
- Make sure you have all of your high school classes on your Skyward schedule. If you think you’ve been placed in the wrong class or have any questions just let me know!
- Juniors should have the following classes
Geometry, Ind. Study or Content Lab
Physics, Ind. Study or Content Lab
World History, Mexican-America History, Ind. Study or Content Lab
English III, Ind. Study or Content Lab
Pathways III, Ind. Study or Content Lab
TSI Math Support, Ind. Study or Content Lab
WYN
Ind. Study or Content Lab
CLASS OF 2024
- Your class did a tremendous job of staying on track in an unprecedented school year last year. You’ll have more freedom this year than you did as freshmen and you’ll be in more college classes than you were last year. You’ll still be meeting with your pathways teachers though and we have all sorts of new supports for you this year so you’re going to do great!
- During your pathways class in the first week you’ll go out on campus and try to find your classes for the first day of TCC classes so that you’re not too nervous. Even though you’re going to be sophomores, you haven’t gotten the full experience of the TCC Campus yet, so it’s ok to be a little confused
- If you have any questions about anything please don’t hesitate to reach out and we’ll do everything we can to help!
- Make sure you have all of your high school classes on your Skyward schedule. If you think you’ve been placed in the wrong class or have any questions just let me know!
- Sophomores should have the following classes
Algebra II or Geometry
Chemistry or Content Lab
HIST-1301, World History, or Mexican-American History
English II
Pathways II
TSI Writing Support
TSI Math Support
Creative Writing, Content Lab or Study Hall
WYN
Content Lab/Study Hall
CLASS OF 2025
- We could not be more excited to have you a new batch of freshmen coming to join the CA family! Like I told you all at Camp Collegiate, the fun at CA requires a little bit of delayed gratification, but this year is going to be so much fun! You have some great new teachers to get to know and we are all here to help you succeed!
- You’ll only be in one college class this fall to get acclimated to what college is like. That being said, it is a college class, so make sure you take it seriously! You’ll have your pathways teachers holding you accountable to make sure you’re turning things in, but if you’re missing a textbook or don’t understand an assignment make sure you ask!
- Make sure you have all of your high school classes on your Skyward schedule. If you think you’ve been placed in the wrong class or have any questions just let me know!
- Freshmen should have the following classes
Algebra I, Algebra II or Geometry
Biology or Chemistry
AP Human Geography
English I
Practical Writing
Pathways I
TSI Reading Support
TSI Math Support
WYN
Maybe One Content Lab
