Mrs. Smith’s Snapchat…
Hello Lakeside parents and Guardians,
On Thursday evening, we had an outstanding Veteran’s Day celebration with our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-grade students and families. Our veterans and current military are responsible for the free and public education we support in our country today and we were proud to honor them. We appreciate all who have served and currently serve in our armed forces to ensure we have great educational opportunities for our students.
Furthermore, please note that two township wide letters are attached to this week's paper newsletter. Please review these and should you have any questions feel free to contact me.
Please look for additional postings in the next few weeks about the great things that are happening in our awesome school.
Have a great weekend!

The Raptor Visitor Management System
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Warren Township Schools is pleased to announce that we will begin using the Raptor Visitor Management System in all of our schools to strengthen our program of campus safety for students and staff. Part of keeping students and faculty safe is knowing who is in our buildings at all times, and the Raptor System will allow us to do that. The Raptor System will better allow us to screen visitors, contractors, and volunteers in our schools and provide us with a safer environment for our students and staff. Our goal is to keep a balance of being a welcoming school district as well as maintaining the safety of our students and staff.
Beginning November 11, 2019, every visitor who enters our school will be asked to present a state of federal ID, such as a Driver’s License, that will be scanned into the Raptor System. Once the visitor has been approved, the office staff will enter the reason, destination of the visit and the Raptor System will print a photo ID visitor badge. If for any reason a parent or guardian does not have a U.S. government-issued ID, the staff member can use any form of ID and manually enter the person’s name into the Raptor System.
A photo ID visitor badge is not required for those who visit our schools to drop off an item or pick-up paperwork at the front desk. Further, they may drop off their items(s) or remain in the waiting area until their student is available. Please be aware that current practices established in each building will remain in effect.
The safety of our students is our highest priority. The Raptor Visitor Management System will provide us with a consistent process of knowing who is in our buildings at all times as well as a tool to identify those individuals who may present a danger to our students and staff.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support towards enhancing school safety protocols in our district. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Lakeside Elementary at 317-532-2850.
Sincerely,
Janie SmithPrincipal
Message from Dr. Hanson
Dear Warren Families,
Our goal in MSD Warren Township is to provide a safe and high quality educational experience. As you may have heard, Tuesday, November 19 has been designated as Red for Ed Action Day in Indiana by the Indiana State Teachers Association. At their most recent public meeting, the MSD of Warren Township Board of Education approved the recommendation to cancel school on Tuesday, November 19 in support of Warren Township teachers and staff participating in the Red For Ed Action Day at the Indiana Statehouse with colleagues from around the state. The MSD of Warren Township and the Board is supporting our staff participating in this event to improve conditions for Indiana teachers as well as to advocate for our students, our schools, and our community. By cancelling school on November 19th, we believe this supports our district goal of providing a safe and high quality educational experience both short term and into the future. Further, the Board approved the utilization of our flex day on Friday, May 22nd as the designated make up day for canceling school on November 19th. School and district offices will be open on November 19th.
We recognize that not having school will create challenges for some of our families. We will be providing lunch to all MSD Warren Township students at no charge; the host sites serving will be the three intermediate middle schools from 11:00 - 1:00. We are working with the YMCA and Boys and Girls Club to provide opportunities for those families who need supervision for their child. Please monitor our digital app and district website for additional information that may be distributed regarding student activities and services available on November 19th. We are communicating this as early as possible to provide families with an opportunity to plan for the closure on November 19th. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for supporting our teachers and staff and the great work they do each day in our classrooms and community for our students.

Counselor's Corner
My name is Kristen Mitchell and I am the school counselor here at Lakeside. I was teaching first grade here previously so you may recognize me. My role is to help add to your child's social, emotional, and academic success. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any concerns about your child's development in any of these areas. My email is kmitchel@warren.k12.in.us and my phone number is 532-2880.
Elementary School Counselors provide education, prevention, and intervention activities through school-wide initiatives, classroom lessons, small groups and individual counseling. Counselors assist students in their academic, career and social/emotional development and provide support to students during times of transition or heightened stress. As a resource to staff and parents, counselors assist in identifying children's academic and social/emotional needs. Counselors may also provide referrals for additional community support services.
A typical day for our elementary school counselor might include the following:
Classroom lesson on social skills
An intervention assisting a small group of third-grade students with organizational skills
Collaboration with a grade-level team review of academic and behavioral data
Facilitating conflict resolution between students
Organizing career exploration activities for teachers to use in the classroom
Parent conference to address academic concerns
Small group intervention activity in anger management

CAR RIDERS/DAYCARE Student Drop-off/Pick-up Procedures
We ask that our parents follow these guidelines to ensure that every student has a safe arrival and dismissal:
All students will be required to be dropped off and picked up through the car rider line to maintain safety standards. Parking at the front and East end of the building and walking children to and from the entrances will not be allowed. We want to prevent children and adults walking through the path of cars or buses on the property at any time.
Staff members will be present outside beginning at 7:55 a.m. each morning for student drop-off. Please do not release your children until a staff member signals the beginning of our process. Students will not be counted tardy until 8:05 a.m. Our afternoon pick-up procedures will begin at 3:00 p.m. If you are in a hurry, you are encouraged to be at or near the front of the line. We will implement our dismissal procedures as quickly and safely as possible for all.
Thank you very much for your support with helping ensure Lakeside maintains safety as our priority during our student entrance and dismissal each day!
DON’T FORGET TO PICK UP YOUR CAR RIDER SIGN IN THE FRONT OFFICE!!
