The 6th graders shared their Summer Stories that they have been working on for the past few weeks. It seems they all had wonderful summers.
We just finished week 2 of our lit. circles and they will finish their books for next Friday. They also completed Unit 2 of spelling where they worked on words with the short and long “e” sounds.
Next week, we will start our first in class novel, Freak the Mighty. They will have comprehension questions to work on throughout the novel.
I have lots of book order forms if anyone is interested in ordering books. You can order online at https://clubs.scholastic.com/. Our class code is JQ8XW and it’s under my maiden name Miss Thomas. I will place an order next Friday.
Have a great weekend!

Math News and Updates
Amanda Lois amanda.lois@yorkville.k12.wi.us
This week in Math the sixth graders reviewed prime and composite numbers and learned the divisibility rules to help them solve for the greatest common factor. Then they learned two methods for finding the GCF, listing and factor trees. On Wednesday they practiced finding GCF by using task cards that they could check their answer using the qr code reader on their chromebooks. We finished the week with using the GCF in the distributive property and then solved for least common multiple.
Next week we will finish Module 2 with review and the quiz on Monday. Then we will begin talking about classifying rational numbers in Module 3, converting fractions and decimals, and comparing and ordering fractions and decimals.
See you at Ram Fun Fest on Saturday!
Social Studies News and Updates
Mary Niccolai mary.niccolai@yorkville.k12.wi.us
In social studies we explored some of the ancient civilizations of Central and South America. We compared and contrasted the Inca, Aztec, Olmec, and Maya civilizations. Your son or daughter used Schoology for the first time this week. They took a geography assessment of the continents and oceans of the world. Next week we will begin to wrap up chapter 1, as we look at some of the early Native Americans that lived in the United States hundreds of years before European explorers. After we finish this lesson we will begin preparing for the first chapter test. Have a great weekend.

Becky Seitz becky.seitz@yorkville.k12.wi.us
In science we had a busy week! We worked with latitude and longitude and are able to find locations using it and write out the degrees when given a specific city to find. We also learned about map projections and why there are different projections used to map the Earth. We ended the week making “Earth” models to help prepare for the quiz on Monday. Students were given a study guide so they all know exactly what to look over. Have a great weekend!
