IG GUARDIAN
August 2020
A Message From Principal Timmins
I am super excited to officially be a part of the Indian Grove and River Trails communities! Preparing for this year has been a bit different than years past, but there's also much that's the same: the excitement of students returning (albeit digitally, for now), finishing and sharing and schedules, and getting a pair "new school year shoes" to name a few.
The IG Guardian will be shared with families around the start of each month to communicate important news, events and information. The name was selected purposely because, along with wisdom, owls are symbols used to represent guardians in some cultures. I feel that the name helps to make that guardian connection between the home and school - all kids are our kids, and we will treat them as so.
I would like to end by saying a sincere thank you to all the parents, guardians, families and teachers. I know there is more uncertainty with this school year than we are used to, but I have greatly appreciated the patience and support that all have offered so far.
Stay Healthy,
Bill Timmins

Student Remote Learning Schedule
Enhanced remote learning this fall will look different than the emergency remote learning that was done last spring. Our fall enhanced remote learning schedule offers more structure and increases the time and opportunity for live instruction delivered digitally. The district will share a communication about the possibility to return to in-person learning by October 2, 2020.
Here is what you can expect for each grade level’s remote learning schedule:
SEL: Morning Meetings & Optimistic Closure (Daily Reflection)
All students will be expected to log into their class Morning Meeting by 9am on regular days (9:30am on Thursdays) and again at 3pm for the whole class Optimistic Closure.
This meeting will start the online learning process for every school day.
Core Learning - Synchronous (LIVE) and Asynchronous (structured & independent)
The recommendation from Illinois State Board of Education is students are to have approximately 5 hours of learning experiences each day. This time should have 2.5 hours of synchronous/live learning and 2.5 hours of asynchronous/structured independent practice.
During Math (orange) and Literacy (green) students will experience some whole class instruction as well as small group instruction/support from classroom teachers and/or specialists.
Science and/or Social Studies learning (2:30 - 3:00pm) will be experienced asynchronously (structured & independent learning). Teachers and other services may also use that time to meet with students.
Specials
Specials (music, art and physical education) will be provided every day using both synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences.
Receive Text Message Alerts
Don’t miss another important message from River Trails 26! Text “YES” to 87569 to opt in and start receiving text updates. If you know someone who is not receiving these alerts, please encourage them to call the main office and update their information.Supply Lists
Shortened supply lists are provided here to minimize the amount of supplies needed to start the year. If your family already purchased supplies, the shorter lists contain common items from already provided lists and PTC purchased supply boxes.

Extra Curricular Activities
We encourage students to be involved in school activities and extracurriculars. Unfortunately, these activities have been delayed until further notice with hopes of resuming as soon as possible.
Transportation
Transportation fees cover less than 20% of the total cost of transportation. The district policy on transportation fee refunds is outlined in the student handbook:
Fifty percent (50%) refund for riders enrolled less than 80 days.
No transportation refund for riders enrolled 80 or more days.
A $5 processing fee is charged on ALL refunds if requested after August 12.
Remote learning is only confirmed through early October so there will not be automatic refunds. If school is fully remote until after winter break (January) the district will refund 50% of the fee. In order to “hold” a space on a future bus route when we return to in-person learning, the fee should remain paid.
If a refund is given, a parent may sign their child up for bus service later in the year, but there must be space on the bus and it may take up to two weeks before a route can be assigned.
