Pratt's Primary Corner

Weekly Update- December 1, 2017

Week at a Glance

Reading- Sadly, we have finished up The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. I always hate finishing books I love! We are starting a new read aloud this week, Frindle! During reading groups we've really been focusing on character traits and using text evidence to support the traits we notice in characters.

Math- We are continuing unit 3, rounding/estimation. This unit has also had a heavy subtraction focus which I think has been a great refresher for students. We should be finishing this unit within the next 2 weeks or so.

Writing- We started doing some more detailed brainstorming this week for our personal narratives. We read some examples of personal narratives and have really been focused on the amazing details writers use to describe their small moments.

Science/Social Studies- Flat Stanley mail is continuing to roll in! We have gotten some awesome pictures and information from all over the country. One of our Flat Stanleys even traveled to Sweden! We have also continued our E4Tech lessons.

One School One Book

This week we wrapped up our school-wide One School One Book project. Thank you all for your support and involvement. We watched Ralph S. Mouse the movie today, and although it was an older one, they seemed to love it. :)

Here is the link to the OSOB website if you'd like to check out all the pictures and video interviews I received from students. They're super cute!

Family Traditions Project

Homework for the next 2 weeks will be a bit different than usual. We will be focusing on a "Family Traditions" project, which Mrs. Callahan and I do every year. This is one of my favorite activities for the school year! This project will be coming home with your child today in his/her red folder.

Students will present their projects on Dec. 18th and parents will be welcome to come to these presentations. There will be an afternoon and morning option for parents.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

**Please note: this project can be related to the holidays, but does not have to be. We've also had many families who don't have a family tradition, but have created one because of this project. :)
