HGMS Counseling Connection
January 2022
Best Wishes for a Wonderful 2022!
We hope this newsletter finds you well! As we embark on a new year, we just want to send some encouragement your way. Feeling stressed, anxious, or afraid is completely natural during uncertain times. Be gentle with yourself right now. No one has all the answers, so it's alright if you don't know what to do. You all are doing a great job despite some challenging times. Please remember to be kind to yourselves as you wade through the upcoming weeks.
Hard to believe we have already begun the 2022-2023 course selection process with all of our students! Please be sure you have taken time to have meaningful conversations with your child and have put careful thought into their course selection/electives. If you need to make a change to your child's selection, please use the form below.

Conversations with clarity
Pandemic-focused children's mental health
When students began going back to school, Clarity Child Guidance Center received many requests for pandemic-focused children's mental health presentations for facility and staff. The Clarity team created their very first "Conversations with Clarity" video!
The panel discussion includes:
- Dr. Joshua Essery, the Director of Outpatient Clinical Services at Clarity Child Guidance Center
Dr. Jacqueline Herrera from Clarity Child Guidance Center
- Lisa Ranallo from ESC Region 20
- Dr. Dina Tom from UT Health San Antonio
You are one smart cookie!
"Good Job" chocholate chip cookie recipe
One special tradition that brings a lot of comfort to the kids at Clarity Child Guidance Center is our "Good Job" discharge cookie.
Every time a child is ready to go home after staying in our inpatient program, they get a gigantic chocolate chip cookie as big as their head!
The first "Good Job" cookie was baked in the 1970s.
Our former director of food services wanted to celebrate a boy who worked incredibly hard on his mental health. On the night before he was discharged, Clarity's staff gave the young man with a special chocolate chip cookie that was the size of a dinner plate.
Everyone saw how special this gesture was to the boy, so a cookie as big as your head became a Clarity tradition. Now each and every child goes home with their own huge cookie.
Please make your own "Good Job" cookies to celebrate your loved one's hard work and mental wellness!
