Masks are MANDATORY !!!

COVID Protocol

As we already know, COVID pandemic is not over yet. As of September 20th, we have a new mandate that masks MUST be worn indoor. All staff, students and visitors will have to wear mask while in school due to a high number of students being in quarantine.

Please follow this protocol for the safety of our students and staff:

• Avoid contact with people that are sick
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
• Stay home when you are sick, except to seek medical care
• Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue
• Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects daily
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
• Use hand sanitizers with at least 60% alcohol
• Choose a room in your home that can be used to separate sick household members

Teachers will be setting up Google Classrooms in case we need to go into Remote Learning. Work will not be posted into Google Classroom unless we go back to Remote Learning, but if your child gets a request from the teacher, please make sure you accept an invite.

Welcome EL Students and Families!!!

Welcome English Learners (EL) and families! This is going to be a wonderful year. EL Teachers are here to help your child adjust to the new culture and learn English. We will help them to become successful students and learn about their new school and to make adjustments to a new culture.

We would like to inform you that we have increased our staff to help your child learn more and adjust the Parma City Schools even easier.

As always, we are here to help guide you and your child’s education, so please feel free to contact us with anything that seems confusing. The best way to reach us is by email if possible. Your emails will be answered as quickly as possible.

OELPA/OELPS

At the beginning of school year, all the students new to the school or a country will be given an OELPS (Ohio English Language Proficiency Screener) test to determine the English proficiency level of the student. Once the level is determined EL teachers will send a Parent Notification Letter home with the results and recommended EL service. Parents need to complete the form and send it back to school. If a student took the OELPA (Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment) test in a previous school year. Then, the OELPA results will be sent home. Parents are still required to complete the Parent Notification Letter and send it back to school.

EL teachers are excited to work with students and help them learn the English language and a new culture.

Parent - Teacher Conferences:

Parent - Teacher conferences are coming! We have two conferences every year, one in the fall, and the other in spring. This year due to COVID, we will have online conferences. Dates and times vary among the schools, so please check your school’s calendar! These conferences are a great way to discuss with each of your child’s teachers how your child is doing. You can also request a translator if you would feel more comfortable. You can also email any teacher to get a quick response.
