Skipping the Winter Slide
Selena graciously coded them for Canvas and SeeSaw for you so you can put them on your pages for your remote students. Thank you Selena!
Here is the embed code for Canvas: <iframe src="https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/e/2PACX-1vSvSFS_Z9sqFVO1mutN869qU0YX2_SMNdjnyD4b3bFWrPvZKZrNBtK7cAFrOZRWSAJJgcKznkwNh1aq/embed?start=false&loop=false&delayms=3000" frameborder="0" width="768" height="1085" allowfullscreen="true" mozallowfullscreen="true" webkitallowfullscreen="true"></iframe>
Here is it in SeeSaw: https://app.seesaw.me/pages/shared_activity?share_token=E0knX3s0SMmedC22wYPPsw&prompt_id=prompt.dd465ac3-42c3-4966-a3d5-e93bf68d7a67
Master Schedule
Action Items:
1. Create a new schedule for your Canvas page outlining what kids should be doing during the day whether they are online with you or not - update Canvas.
2. Update your google meet links. Please paste your links here so the front office has them to help families who didn't receive the change information. (Second tab in the Master Schedule workbook)
Extended Grading Period
MOY MAP Testing
Biggest change - all remote students will have to come to school to take the test, there will be no remote testing. Once we are back we will begin scheduling parents. If you have a small group of F2F students we are going to ask parents if they are interested in testing here at school when your class tests in the computer lab. If they aren't interested in doing that we will have opportunities on Fridays or the last week of the window. Stay tuned for more information in January. We will only be taking math and reading, no science.
PLCs on December 16th
Planning the first 3 weeks of instruction in January. If you haven't looked over the CBAs coming up since you planned the unit be sure to do that before you give students the test. :)
Notes from Jocelyn...
Behavior / Discipline
Y'all do an AMAZING job supporting our students. As we move into the last week before winter break please remember this can be a difficult time of year for many. Often the week before a holiday we see an increase in student discipline. This can happen for a variety of reasons including having difficulty adjusting to a change in the normal routine and uncertainty surrounding the change. While we have some fun activities planned next week, it's also a great time to practice some of our regular routines.
Grades
Hard to believe we are already at the end of cycle 2. The official end of the cycle is 12/18. Grades will lock in Skyward on 1/8/21.
Remember each subject area should have:
Minor grades: 80% (8 grades minimum)
Classwork, assignments, homework, and quizzes
Major grades: 20% (2-3 grades minimum)
Tests, projects, products, Benchmark Exams, common assessments
All grade changes for cycle 1 recovery must be completed by the end of the day on Friday, December 18. (Remember, any grade change for this purpose must be accompanied by the RT re-teach code.) Students who failed the first cycle linked here. Please make sure, if appropriate, you have done some type of reteach to bring up grades from cycle 1.
Jams from Jana!
Don’t forget that we want our students to pass 30 lessons in Imagine Math by the end of the year. Check your student’s progress. By the end of next week, we would ideally want to see them close to 15 lessons passed.
Are your students getting two lessons of Imagine Math and at least two lessons of Imagine Language and Literacy weekly? Scheduling is the key. Be sure you have a scheduled time for students to work in one of these two programs every day. Let me know if you need help accessing reports to check the progress of students in your class.
Notes from Esther....
If you have not already done so, please be sure that your Tier 2 & Tier 3 students complete their monthly ISIP test. The two links below are documents to help virtual students get started.
Here is a Google Slide with Step-by-Step directions so you can ( make a copy) and send it out to parents/students.
Here is a monthly post that you can use, feel free to ( make a copy) and edit it to fit your needs.

Notes from Selena....
Here is a routine you can implement in your classroom to explicitly teach vocabulary:
- Say the word out loud. Repeat the word.
- Have students say the word.
- Say the syllables of the word slowly. Draw attention to recently taught decoding or spelling objectives (e.g., consonant blends).
- Draw on the context of the vocabulary instruction to provide a quick, student-friendly definition.
- Have students discuss what they know about the word and connect this to prior knowledge, noticing similarities or differences with home languages.
- Use the word in quick example sentences or situations.
- Invite students to explain the word to their partners, using the word in sentences and situations.
