If you have parent calls and visits concerning coronavirus and schools please make sure those who answer the phones and leadership team have the following talking points:
Alief ISD is working closely with the Houston Health Department to monitor the coronavirus situation. We currently have no suspected cases among our students and staff. The safety of our staff and students remains Alief ISD’s top priority. Alief ISD will continue to hold classes at this time, and we will continue to take all future guidance from local health officials regarding school operations.
Recently, the CDC has issued updated guidance for schools to prepare and take action for COVID-19 which includes practices currently in place. Alief ISD campus custodial staff will continue to disinfect campuses and buildings with hospital-grade products. The district emphasizes common-sense preventive actions for students and staff, such as staying home when sick; appropriately covering coughs and sneezes; cleaning frequently touched surfaces; and washing hands often using proper hand washing techniques.
For up to date information and announcements from the district, please visit www.aliefisd.net/coronavirus or follow us on social media @aliefisd on twitter and Facebook

What is House Bill 3?
House Bill (HB 3) 3, a sweeping and historic school finance bill was passed by the 86th Texas Legislature in 2019 and signed by Gov. Greg Abbott. The bill provides more money for Texas classrooms, increases teacher compensation, reduces recapture and cuts local property taxes for Texas taxpayers. HB 3 is one of the most transformative Texas education bills in recent history. The bill is the result of months of work beginning with the Texas Commission on Public School Finance and culminating in bipartisan work between the members of the Texas House and Senate.
We have posted a proposed version of the 2019-2020 Student Attendance Accounting Handbook: Version 2 that includes amendments to incorporate changes made by recent legislation, including House Bill 3, 86th Texas Legislature, 2019, on the Texas Education Agency (TEA) website at http://tea.texas.gov/index2.aspx?id=25769817607.
The public comment period for the proposed is from February 7, 2020 to March 9, 2020. Send a public comment on Proposed Amendment to 19 TAC §129.1025
Alief ISD employees may now use RediMD telemedicine for on-the-job injuries. Using telemedicine for minor injuries will help keep our employees at work, will save them the time to drive to and from the clinic, and will keep them away from sitting in a waiting room with sick patients. A win-win for the district and our employees!
