RHS Parent Weekly Update
Riverside High School Oct. 4 - Oct. 8
Greetings Pirate Family,
Thank you for another great week and successful Senior Kick-off and Curriculum Night events last week! In light of the events at Friday's Northern High School vs. Riverside game, we want to make sure that our families know safety and security are at the forefront of our work, and we will continue to keep all of our students safe.
As a reminder, schools are not allowed to have outside food deliveries from vendors during lunch. We also ask that students not bring outside food and drinks on campus during the school day due to COVID precautions with unmasking in classrooms while eating and drinking. Students will be asked to throw away food and drink items before entering the building. This is for the safety of all students and staff.
In addition, if your student is unwell or feeling sick, please keep them at home until they are symptom-free, have a negative COVID test, or have another diagnosis from a medical professional. If your student is awaiting COVID test results, please do not send them to school until you have received the results.DPS can ONLY accept a rapid test (not a rapid home test) when a child or staff member is sick or symptomatic. Anyone deemed close contact exposure must have a PCR test 5 days after exposure before returning to school or work.
All asymptomatic students and staff must have a PCR test.
If your student is unwell, please call (919-560-3965) or email (Tonya McKoy) in the main office to notify the school.
If your student should be diagnosed with COVID-19, please immediately contact the school using the above information. In addition, there are specific protocols in place that include but are not limited to quarantining, contact tracing, and notifications that must occur.
Thank you for your assistance in helping us keep all students and staff safe.

COVID Testing Information
Durham Public Schools, in partnership with MAKO Medical, will begin providing weekly COVID-19 testing at school to help identify possible COVID-19 infections among students even if they are not showing any symptoms. Research has shown such testing can reduce the spread by 50%, especially in large settings such as schools.
The testing is a simple swab of the nose and not the test that tickles the brain. This is the same test families can administer from home or at local testing sites.
This is a voluntary testing process, so a parent or guardian must register their student to participate. The link to register is here and included in the Riverside Student COVID Testing Permission Letter (English/ Spanish). All testing information and results will remain confidential. In order for students to be included in the first round of testing, they must have submitted their permission forms by Sunday, October 10.
Additionally, Durham Public Schools has provided a COVID-19 Testing FAQs.
I encourage our families to register their children for this free opportunity. Together, we can keep our students safe, in their classrooms, and prevent community spread.
