BLOCKS PTO meeting notes 5/16/23
Overall Updates:
Teacher appreciation week overview and thanks.
Garden supplies and volunteer sign up soon to come. PTO decided last month that it might be more cost effective if we reached out to families for garden supplies.
Parents can pick up supplies from garden stores and drop them at the school.
Caterpillars have arrived at the school. Voted on and approved in the April PTO meeting.
Hopefully caterpillars will emerge from cocoons during the school year. 2 robins nests on school grounds that the kids have been watching.
Principals Update:
Picture retake happened on 5/16-went quickly- wanted to do outdoor pictures, but difficult with light/wind/weather. Indoor went well and looked like outdoors with backgrounds. Coffee Pond company is local in Framingham if anyone wants to use them.
Kindergarten assignments-we will miss you and hope you come back to visit! There will be end of the year celebrations in each classroom-sing a longs, etc. Everyone should have heard from classroom teacher already about celebration to “say goodbye”.
Parent Workshops
Were available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese-virtual, provided by equity office. Spanish one was excellent-it was recorded and will be sent out if you couldn’t access them. The workshop was about how to structure your home and create a routine that can help you with young children, so everything is a little less crazy or exhausting during the “witching hours”.
Theme day on Friday-silly socks
Treasurers’ update:
**expenses are all pending-amount isn’t reflecting some of the teacher appreciation expenses.
PTO is planning to ask families for $10 donation for fun day expenses and people can send more if they want, we will send out a flier in backpacks next week. If we can’t raise some funds, then we can’t do some of the things that we want to do. Families might not be aware, so we should send out a flier to help with expenses. Need more of a cushion for the budget, so we have enough for fun day next year as well.
Fun Day-Petting zoo is confirmed, jumpy house is confirmed. About $5,000 cost for fun day.
Fundraising::
Would be great to get a head start over the summer
Support is needed for the execution of these ideas.
We need volunteers for fundraising.
School orientation at the beginning of the year or sending it with the mailed school information in August might be a good opportunity to ask for volunteers for fundraising.
Volunteers for fun day will be contacted soon. If you’re still interested in volunteering, reach out to get involved!
