Cedar Grove Friday Flash
November 13, 2020
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
Recently, there has been quite a bit of information that families are receiving about the MCPS framework for the phase-in return of students to partial in-person learning beginning January 2021. Much will be dependent on what county health metrics allow; however, in preparation for this next phase, Montgomery County Public Schools is requesting that families complete a parent survey to provide preferences concerning partial in-person learning experiences or remaining in the current virtual only learning experience. The survey is live and may be found at the link below. It is available in different languages and one survey should be completed for each child in your family by December 3rd. You will need your child's student ID number to complete the brief survey. Please take a few minutes to complete your preferences.

Parent/Teacher conferences will take place on November 23 and 24. These conferences are a great vehicle to strengthen the home/school partnership through two-way communication about academic progress and work habits as well as personal and social growth. However, time for conferences is limited, and we encourage parents to review our conference tips to maximize this opportunity to work together for the benefit of our children. If you have not yet scheduled a conference, please work with your child's teacher to set a day and time.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Personal Body Safety Lessons
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is taking an active role in the prevention of child abuse and neglect through early prevention and intervention education.
During the weeks of November 16th-December 7th, our school counselor, Erin Spoales will be presenting lessons on the topic of child abuse and neglect. The lessons are known as Personal Body Safety Lessons and their purpose is to help students to:
Develop knowledge, decision making skills, and behaviors which promote safe living in the home, school, and community;
Learn skills for self-protection and identifying child abuse and neglect;
Learn skills for asking for help for self and others and practice reporting to a trusted adult; and
Engage in positive and appropriate interactions with peers and adults.
If you have any questions or concerns about the topics that will be covered, please contact Erin Spoales, school counselor at Erin_M_Spoales@mcpsmd.org.

CREATING A NEW SCHOOL SONG! 🎵💚
Good afternoon, Cedar Grove Bears!!
It's hard to believe it is November already, right? This year has brought so many unknowns, as you know, new ways of living, working, and learning in every aspect of our lives, including this great big NEW world of Virtual Learning. Along with it's many challenges, when we take pause and think about all we can be grateful for, there are many....our health, families, friends, colleagues, and community. Specifically for us as a school community, our Cedar Grove family is a meaningful piece of our lives...past, present, and future. Although parted by distance right now, our "Bear" hearts and spirit are together forever!!
In the spirit of feeling thankful, we'd like to create a new Cedar Grove school song! With input from staff and students, this song will be a way to build community and feel connected now and for many years to come!
STUDENTS - We would love YOUR input in our school song. You will find the short School Song Survey here. This is an opportunity for you to provide your ideas about what makes Cedar Grove such a special place. We'd love to hear from you!! Please complete and submit your responses by Wednesday, November 25.
Thanks so very much for taking the time to contribute your ideas!!! I can't wait to see our School Song come together!
Warmly,
Mrs. Cheryl Arellano

From Mrs. Hirschhorn, Media Specialist
Our first week of November may have been short for our students, but we still held our holds to go and we welcomed Mrs Kim back! Please bookmark the November Media Monthly which, as always, is loaded with information for our community, including videos, the November Media Events calendar, and so much more. Although the Media Monthly is shared to anyone with a link, many of the resources are bound to the mcpsmd.net access. This is for proprietary reasons because I share a lot of copyright materials and resources that are limited to educational platforms such as mcpsmd.net. Have a great weekend!
