DIGITAL SCHEDULES - HERE IS THE SCOOP!
Phase One From September 8 - 11: ALL students will be receiving ELA and Math instruction ONLY.
- Hybrid Students will be receiving their in-person ELA and Math for these 4 days at Pleasant Valley School. While at home, there will be NO additional virtual requirements.
- Virtual Only Students will be receiving their virtual ELA and Math for these 4 days on their Chromebooks. There will be NO additional virtual requirements.
Phase Two Beginning September 14: ALL students will add to their ELA and Math learning by receiving asynchronous instruction for their specials (recorded lessons).
- Each homeroom teacher's digital Google Classroom platform will provide guidance on access to these lessons for PE, Art, Music, Library, Science, and Social Studies.
- If your student receives ELA & Math in the morning, then PE, Art, Music, Science, and Social Studies will be in the afternoon.
- If your child receives ELA & Math in the afternoon, PE, Art, Music, Science, and Social Studies will be in the morning.
Phase Three Beginning September 16: Students who receive additional supports for ELA and/or math will begin their interventions. All students who are receiving interventions to support their reading and/or math successes will receive a Zoom link so they can have an instructional session with the interventionists. If you are uncertain if your child receives these supports, please reach out to your child's teacher for clarification.
Phase Four Anticipated Beginning the First Week of October: ALL students will begin receiving live instruction from PE, Art, Music, Science, and Social Studies at the times indicated on their digital schedules.
VIRTUAL ONLY CLASS PLACEMENTS
The Virtual-Only learning option was not inclusive to the alphabet split model. A-L and M-Z cohorts are applicable to the hybrid-students’ portion of the day where students attend the physical building to ensure that the 50% capacity was achievable to maintain social distancing to the maximum extent possible. The last name determining the time of instruction process was conducted to assure appropriate numbers for class sizes to support social distancing within in-person classrooms as well as a safe environment for transportation.
Families who selected Virtual-Only will have a school day that meets the NJDOE requirements of an instructional day and is equal to the hybrid learning model. Virtual instruction is occurring all day, morning and afternoon as a typical school day would. To make a conducive learning environment for all students, class placements were required to be balanced based on multiple factors (class size, related services, academic support, etc.). Therefore, an alphabet based model could not be strictly honored.
Virtual classroom teachers will share individualized schedules with families as shared above. Students will access active links throughout their learning day, both in the morning and afternoon. When accessing the parent portal, the AM session indicates that ELA and Math will be instructed in the AM. The PM session indicates that ELA and Math will be instructed in the PM. See above under "Digital Schedules- Here is the Scoop!" for additional details.
Class placements are complete. Teachers are ready for your learners and no additional changes are being considered at this time. We look forward to learning with your child as we start school on Tuesday.
Sixth Grade Immunizations - - ONLY 45 MORE TO BE TURNED IN
We have received updated information from the Department of Health regarding immunizations of students in school regulations (N.J.A.C. 8:57-4). The NJDOH will not waive vaccine requirements nor will there be any extensions for the upcoming school year. Students are expected to comply with all vaccine requirements prior to attending virtually or in-person at a New Jersey child care/preschool and school. New Jersey still allows for medical and religious exemptions when applicable. Please reach out to your medical professional or our school nurses for more information (856-223-5120, ext. 6321). Let's avoid any uncomfortable situations on September 8th and get those forms turned in to the health office. Please click HERE to access the letter and form to be completed by your health care provider verifying immunizations.
Families can turn in their paperwork in multiple ways:
- Drop it off at the school. PVS is open from 8:00 - 3:00.
- Fax it to the Health Office (856-223-1781) or Main Office (856-2692)
- Email it to the Health Office (NursesPVS@harrisontwp.k12.nj.us) or the principal (hackett-slimmj@harrisontwp.k12.nj.us)
Chromebooks
They will be receiving a new, updated device with a new sturdy case. Your Explorer will have daily homework to charge their device at home every single night. Please keep the charger at home.
BUS REMINDERS
For students traveling on the bus, please remember your mask. If your child does not have a mask, the bus driver will provide one. If your child refuses to put their mask, they will not be permitted to get on the bus. Thank you for your understanding.
