Therapy Dog Coming Soon!
Principal's Message
Lincoln families, we have a ton going on! I cannot wait for all of it to take place and be rewarding for us all! Thank you all for what you do for us and our students. I have been thinking about the following quote a lot lately:
“Setting an example is not the main means of influencing another, it is the only means.”
-Albert Einstein
I share this quote to remind parents of the power our actions have on our children.
I want to share a message that is proactive in nature because I want to set up our students for success over the summer months.
There is a rule of thumb in my house when Owen and Beau start to act out more often. It typically is linked back to the dreaded three ‘S’es… Sugar, sleep, and screen time! This is not always easy to navigate at home, but I want to warn that these factors play huge roles in the development of our lives. I also can feel it as a drag on my own life. If I eat too much sugar, sleep too little, or spend too much time on a screen, I tend to feel like garbage.
This is where Mr. Einstein’s quote ties into everything. Parents, please be cognizant of your actions. If you eat food that is high in sugar, so will your kids. If you try to get by on too little sleep, so will your kids. Finally, and most importantly, if you spend too much time playing video games, watching your favorite shows… or SCROLLING THROUGH YOUR PHONE at home after school, so will your kids. I’m not saying “No sugar! No staying up late! No screen time at home!”. I am, however, asking you to be thoughtful of your kids’ mental health, as well as your own.
As we look into the summer months and spending more time with our kids, hopefully, keep these thoughts present. In an attempt to shrink the summer slide with their learning, model the behavior you desire from your kids. Talk to your kids about how good rest, healthy eating, and screen time can affect their feelings and attitudes. They are only young for a short while. If you are able to cut twelve minutes on a screen a day during the week, that is 60 minutes a week! Get outside and be active. Get some vitamin D! Foster passion for your kids’ interests and hobbies! Never before has mental health been talked about as much as it is now. If we want to be positive Polecats, we have to live positively! Thank you for all you do!
P.S. I do realize the irony of you getting this newsletter on a device and you reading it on your phone, hopefully not in front of your kids.
A message from our PTO!
Field Trips
Be on the lookout for more events coming this spring, including school sponsored field trips. Specifically, be looking for teacher communication of dates for field trips and permission slips. Please have them turned in before the day of the field trip. I do not want to exclude anyone from enjoying the field trips, but field trips are a privilege. Students making poor safety choices, which includes not listening to adults, may have this privilege taken away. I will be working with teachers and staff in deciding if a student is not able to attend because of their actions. I do not foresee this to be a huge issue as we have some of the best kids in the STATE, but it is still something I want to address.
