Class of 2026 Counselor Information
September 22nd, 2023
Hello South 10th Grade Students!
Evelyn Kennedy
SEHS counseling team has expanded and we are fortunate to welcome Evelyn Kennedy as our 10th grade Classic South counselor. Evelyn will be working with ALL 10th graders in Classic South with the last names A-Z!
The counseling team is excited to work with you this year and support you each step of the way. There are some changes in our department that we want you to know. First, the counseling center has moved across the hall where the administration offices were last year. Our superstar counseling secretary, Leann Hollenbeak is still the friendly face you see when you stop by counseling. Also in the counseling office you will find Melinda Shull, South's registrar. Also the College and Career Center has a new home next to the counseling center. Lori Sauter is the College and Career Center coordinator and Kathy Ruggles is our School to Career Coordinator, College Now liaison and also supports students athletes who aspire to participate in NCAA athletics. The counseling center is a "one stop shop" where you can receive social, emotional and academic supports and resources to benefit your high school experience and post high school journey.
For our IHS 10th graders they have been assigned by last name to Juli, Michael and Shantel.
Juli McGlinsky is the counselor for IHS 10th graders with the last names A-Ha, Michael Leahy oversees 10th grade IHS students with the last names He-Pe and Shantel Buss will work with IHS 10th graders with the last names Pf-Z.

Some important 10th grade info we want you to be thinking about:
*Get to know your high school transcript and high school graduation requirements. You are fully a high school student, you had a 9th grade, you have earned some credits and made progress towards graduation. This fall we will be doing 10th grade class visits and walking you through a transcript audit to help with future course planning. You can always ask for a copy of your unofficial transcript in the counseling office or check your course history in StudentVue.
*We are once again partnering with HOOTS (Helping Out Our Teens Schools) and they are providing mental health support and resources during the school day on campus in room 406. Self referral and additional resources can be found here -> https://linktr.ee/hoots.hub
*On Thursday, October 12th, we will be offering the PreACT to all 10th graders. This is a practice standardized test experience. You do not need to study, but if you are curious about what will be on the test and how to prepare there is information here: https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/test-preparation/free-act-test-prep.html
*Interested in volunteering in the community this year? The College and Career Center maintains a comprehensive database of opportunities in the Eugene area for you to research. https://sehs.4j.lane.edu/student-volunteering/
*Have you ever thought about exploring different careers? Connected Lane County's Elevate program is a great place to start. They offer internships and a variety of experiences that help high school students receive on the job training and skills. https://connectedlane.org/elevate/
*Are you starting to think about going to college or the types of careers you are interested in and wondering where you might begin that research? Good news, you will complete a "Sophomore Project" this year. This is one of the yearly Personalized Learning Requirements you complete before graduation. Look for that to be available to 10th graders in late January.
*National Honor Society - NHS is a leadership and community service focused organization that students can apply for the first time in March of 10th grade. Students will need to have a 3.6 GPA to be eligible.
We know you have a lot going on in your world, but we want to encourage you stop by the counseling center to say hello and check in. We encourage any and all questions or wonders about your high school experience, we are here for YOU. Have a fantastic school year!
The SEHS Counseling Team,
Shantel Buss, Leann Hollenbeak, Evelyn Kennedy, Michael Leahy and Juli McGlinsky
