Early Learners Highlights!
April 28, 2023
Dear Early Learners Families,
What a fabulous week it has been for our Early Learners! Our Pre-K music performance was a success, and we are so proud of all our students for their hard work. We are grateful to our classroom teachers and Mr. DelGrosso for all their hard work and dedication to making the night a success. For all our 3-year-olds moving into the 4-year-old pre-k classes next year, we can't wait for you to perform next year!
Please continue reading below for some important upcoming events.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Marcia
Upcoming Events
Erin's Law- Grady's Group
Next week, in Grady's Group, Jen Grady will be doing a brief presentation for Erin's Law. Erin's Law (House Bill 6193) was signed by Governor Pat Quinn on January 24, 2013. This law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades Pre-K through 12. The presentation she will use will be very much geared toward our youngest learners.
- Distinguishing safe from unsafe touches
- Saying “NO”
- Telling a trusted adult
You may view the presentation here. If you would prefer that your child opt-out of this presentation, please email Jen Grady (jgrady@dps109.org). Feel free to reach out to her directly with any questions or concerns.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN EARLY LEARNERS?
This week we dove into our Spring Unit! Students are learning about the different life cycles of bugs, insects, flowers, and plants. We are growing our own lima beans and watching them grow. We are also loving watching our caterpillars get bigger! They are almost ready to turn into their chrysalis and we can't wait! Some classrooms have turned their dramatic play areas into a flower shop or a garden.
This is one of our favorite units and we are looking forward to watching everything grow. Have a great weekend!
Speech with Ms. Nathanson
This week in speech group we read There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick. While reading the story, the students got to "feed" the old lady. After reading the story, the students answered comprehension questions relating to the book. They did a great job!
