The 14th Dalai Lama was born on 6 July 1935 to a small farming family in a hamlet
Northeastern Tibet. Herecieved education in logic, Tibetan art and culture, and Sanskrit. In 1954 he went to Beijing for peace talks with Mao Zedong. However, when a Tibetan uprising was brutally crushed by Chinese troops, the Dalai Lama was forced to go into exile in northern India. Thorughout the years he came up with a five point plan to help Tibet, which he presented to Congress in 1987. In 1989 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his nonviolent struggles to free Tibet. In 2011 he gave up his political power to make Tibet a democracy.

Leadership
The Dalai Lama is a very nice and peaceful man, so it is not hard to get people to like him. His determination even in the worst times is an admirable characteristic, and his strong will attracts people to follow him. As head of Buddhism, he also has the full support of Buddhists, and leads them accordingly. All around, the Dalai Lama is an excellent leader.
