Happy Mother’s Day!
This has been a very intense week consisting of testing, events and especially, the visit from the accreditation team. On Tuesday, this team of individuals spent the day on our campus evaluating our administrators, leadership team, teachers, staff, as well as our policies, procedures, instruction, and resources.
I am very happy to report that the visit went extremely well. Many of our teachers and students had the opportunity to shine in front of the visiting team. In just four weeks, we will receive news if Franklin Academy has become an accredited school system.
In The Spotlight: Mrs. Adler
This week, we have the opportunity to get to know a little bit more about our curriculum specialist, Mrs. Adler.
When and why did you decide to work as an educator? I knew from a very young age that I loved to work with children. I started off as a babysitter for our neighbors at the age of 16. I then decided to become an aftercare teacher at a pre-school in Kendall, which is where I grew up. That is where I truly realized I wanted to be a teacher so as I went to college to become an educator, I worked at the preschool until I graduated from college. It was so rewarding to see how the children developed throughout their young years and grew into "students". I worked my way up in the preschool. After being an aftercare teacher, I then became a teacher assistant and finally a teacher for the 4 year old class. After that, as they say, the rest is history.
If you were not a working at a school, what would you be? I would be a pediatric nurse. Growing up, my brother had Type 1 diabetes since he was a year old, so needles and hospitals were just the norm for me and it always intrigued me.
What’s the most satisfying part of your job as our curriculum specialist? Watching teachers grow and learn!! Just like I loved to see my students as a classroom teacher grow, I now get to see educators learn from me and excel in the classroom. The Administration and the Leadership team have also taken pride in ensuring a positive culture among staff, students and parents. That is what I believe it takes to be a successful school.
What do you like to do on your free time? Fishing, boating, snorkeling and going to the beach with my husband and 8 year old twins: a boy and girl.
What is your favorite memory at Franklin Academy? There are so many wonderful memories but, I have to say it's carline, especially year 1!!! I had never seen anything like that. It truly is complicated but it works. Every year Mr. Delgado will ask me, "Mrs. Adler, are you sure you want to do carline" and every year I say yes. It's my way of getting to know all of our parents. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Around Franklin...
City of Sunrise Youth Athlete of the Month
This past Tuesday, the City of Sunrise recognized two of our students as Youth Athletes of the Month for May. Xavion Russell (2nd grade), from the Recreational Baseball Program, and Marissa Hardy (4th grade), from the Recreational Softball Program.
Way to go!!!
City of Sunrise Teacher of the Month
Also this past Tuesday, our phenomenal seventh and eighth grade Individuals and Societies teacher, Ms. Iqbal, received a Teacher of the Month award for the City of Sunrise from Mayor Ryan. Very well deserved!
Ms. Duke's Class
Ms. Duke's students are learning about worms through an I-ready story. Ms. Duke brought in worms for her students to observe and investigate. So far, they have identified the parts of a worm and discovered that the worms will wriggle if the soil is wet. What a fun way to learn.
Kudos to Ms. Duke!!!
Big Thank you!!!!
Our Administration Team wants to say thank you to all who came and joined us last Wednesday at Chilli's to celebrate support this PTO event. We had a great time greeting and serving our families. A special thank you to Ms. Nelson, who we recruited to help us!
